Lightning event returning?

They do it in hopes that people will stay subbed in order to avoid missing out on things like this. Seasonal events are based around this strategy and SE has simply added more of these types of events to take further advantage of this. In fact there has been at least one seasonal/limited time event going on during every month since launch.

Dec. 18th - Dec. 31st 2013 Starlight Celebration (Snowman Costumes)

Dec. 31st - Jan. 14th 2014 Heavensturn (Year of the Horse Kabutos)

Jan. 21st - Feb. 3rd 2014 FFXI and Dragonquest X Crossover (Shantotto minion and Rock Golem Minion / Thug's Mug Helmet)

Feb. 4th - Feb. 17th 2014 Valentione's Day (Maid Outfits)

Feb. 4th - Feb. 21st 2014 Second Lightning Strikes Event (Lightning Costumes and Hairstyles)

Feb. 28th - Mar. 13th 2014 Little Ladies Day (Edvya Minion)

Next month will likely hold an Easter related event.

Looking at this list, you can probably safely assume that if you unsub for even one month you're going to miss out on something. Don't want to be disappointed ? Don't stop giving SE your money.
