New to healing high lvl stuff (Bout to hit 50 on both)

So as the title says, I'm new to healing high level stuff as both classes. Looking for any tips and tricks if anyone has any to share. Already have very few actions and macros to make life easier, namely a virus <tt> macro as well as a E4E <tt> macro. Always seem to toss dps when things are going alright, no one is below 80% hp, try to keep up galvanize/stoneskins when I can, but it still feels like I'm not doing something right in the classes. It could simply be because I haven't officially hit 50 yet and my gear is quite outdated, but it feels like I blaze through MP at an alarming rate in some dungeons, namely Darkhold as of lately. Any other useful macros, tips or tricks any healers are willing to share?

something i realized tonight, you should never just be standing there. if you are full mana you should be doing something, anything, even if everyones full hp. cast stoneskin, dps, throw a succor up etc. also, be proactive and think in advance. earlier on ultima, i saw the tank standing where garuda was facing for her aoe, so i threw a sacred soil up for him and followed it quickly with an adlo because i knew he was gonna eat it. oh and if you roll sch (or smb for that matter) make sure you use obey. i macrod whispering dawn with rouse, which is nice bc they are both on a 60 sec CD. a lot nicer to dictate when those pet actions go off rather than the pet just spamming them in sic. pretty basic advice but I'm new to it.

both sch and whm ability that restores mana, shroud for whm. not sure about sch but whm you should be using cure 1 as much as possible and watching for cure 2 procs that will cast a cure 2 for free. Low lvl dungeons and light parties medica should almost always be avoided, as it just costs too much mana.

Seems a fair deal of the issues i was encountering were simply resolved by hitting 50 and not wearing massively outdated gear.. Now onto the fun job of making macros for healing classes, yay..

Well, for the high level stuff, some of my favorite macros consist of...(I main a WHM...):

    /ac "Shroud of Saints" <me>
/echo Shroud off CD in 120 seconds! <se.9><se.9><wait.60>
/echo Shroud off CD in 60 seconds! <se.9><se.9><wait.60>
/echo Shroud is OFF CD! GO GO GO!!! <se.1><se.1><se.1><se.1><se.1>

Granted, any other macro breaks your count down, but I only usually use 2 macros during a fight (And at that, I'll be reverting my benediction macro until its fixed). Echo is a useful way of just alerting yourself to the cooldown without having to use another chat channel such as /p, as it kind of sends a whisper to yourself. This echo will be interrupted by the use of other macros, but still pretty darn worth it.

    /ac "Benediction" <t>
    /p Using benediction on <t>!

Was much better when it actually listened to its <t> command, which was broken post 2.14 or so...

    /ac "Cure III" <me>

Very useful if you need a tight heal around yourself for titan HM and EX, or anywhere else where people have to stack tightly together (t5, ifrit EX/HM, etc).

/ac "Eye for an Eye" <t>
/ac "Eye for an Eye" <tt>
    /p Casting E4E on current Tank! <se.4>

Casts E4E on your target or target-of-target. Generally, this will be the current tank of your target, or your target himself. Also alerts the rest of the party that E4E was used.

    /ac "Virus" <tt>
    /ac "Virus" <t>
/p Used Virus on the boss! <se.1>

Casts virus on the bad guy, and alerts the party that you did so.

For a SCH I love comboing my AoEs...

    /ac "Succor" <me>
    /pac "Whispering Dawn"

Can't remember at the moment if the pac needs a <me> attached to it though. Really good during Titan EX stomps/jump phases.

Just finished a super HoT macro for SCH that I'm rather pleased with, pops rouse, fey illumination, succor, and whispering dawn all in 1 macro.
    /micon "Rouse"
    /ac "Rouse"
    /pac "Fey Illumination"
    /wait 2
    /ac "Succor" <me>
    /pac "Whispering Dawn"
    /p Super HoT Active <Gather Together.> <Please>

Indeed, that is a super HoT, and keeping in mind I'm not playing on SCH much, so I do forget things like this.

For whm in 4 man groups use the wombo combo after tank has hate,
Divine seal -> medica 2 + regen on tank = both of the HoT should amass to a constant cure 1+ on the tank which will allow you to help dps.
Also its helpful in 8 man groups but can get taxing if you do it more than 3/4 times.
In 8 mans just poop stoneskin and cure 1/2.
Also as a pro tip to surviving, always have a stoneskin on urself and reapply it when u have the mp/ chance cuz..... That 18% shield can determine whether or not u'll die from that next plume you have failed to dodge. Lol
Cuz a dead healer is the worst healer of all.
