You are of the new generation of gamers if you think that is how it was.If the "old times" are the ones in which the only rewarded people were the nolifers that keeps logged 24/7, maybe sharing the same account between friends, and the "normal" people who have a life and job were left out in toto and cannot even dream about that rewards, I am very happy that times had an end, and welcome FFXIV.
To be fair, I am part of the "old generation", if that is what you prefer, but that did happen. Usually in Korea or one of those far flung regions.
It's the reason why a game like Ragnarok Online was the only (?) game to match WoW during it's height of power.
I think primal ex weapon and/or allagan weapon is pretty difficult to obtain. Looking at OP's gear, it looks like he hasn't attempted any of the real challenges yet... Not just the fight, the whole process of getting the right people together... Pretty challenging.
Play Diablo if you want time sink for havin rewards.
I do feel when it takes longer to get something it's more rewarding like how FFXI was but let's be honest here, it was never a challenge. It just challenges your patience. You should just just title your thead as "I want things to take longer to get." And I agree, Yoshi should add long term goals where it takes a long time to get and make the rewards actually rewarding, not like those Luminarys (however you spell it). I always thought that's how the Relic quests were supposed to be. He should've made you go through all kinds of hoops to get that Relic.

I have to say you are wrong here.I do feel when it takes longer to get something it's more rewarding like how FFXI was but let's be honest here, it was never a challenge. It just challenges your patience.
NM hunting had you competing with other characters. And no, everything wasn't camped by RMT or with bots. Not only that, most RMT where useless at claiming.
XP party. i was a ranger, so I had to know when or if to pull depending on party information. Not to link it with other mobs and so on.
I even went around and tried to solo a lot of high level NMs. And I have to say that my fight against Cassie was more challenging then Titan here.
I could go on with things, but think that is enough of examples.
In this game, the hardest thing is getting competent players.

You make this game any harder and there won't be any tanks to run instances. Right now it takes long enough for a DPS to find a dungeon if they're not a tank and we don't need the DF to become any longer then it already is right now.
EDIT: This is pointed at the leveling portion right now because I've tried to run dungeons as DPS in lower levels but when the timer exceeds double the average wait time then there is something severely wrong with the system. I think DPS experience needs to be adjusted with how long it takes for them to enter the queue and should get more the longer they wait.
The reason I say this is because I work full time and when it takes around 30-45 minutes just to find a group then I can only run the DF once in the time frame that it takes to just get a group meaning that I run a dungeon once a day and with that it just doesn't feel right and feels very off.
There is a fix to this problem though and that is giving more leves per day then just giving a lousy 6 leves a day because that takes like what an all of 15-20 minutes to go through them all? You need to review your leveling experience gain SE because right now it just doesn't feel right.

Well, I played games in which I had to farm months same dungeon and same mob, to get one point more of armor. And a die means 1% exp loss. And 1% means another two months of farming. I know very well what I am talking of. But, have done it, does not means I liked that so much.
I think the new generation players cannot even dream to get a Reborn 99 Priest on RO (at the times I were playing, dunno if that gone easymode then).
Back to topic, if 5% is so much elite that don't find this game challenging, that does not means other 95% must get lost. As a casual player (at least, as playing time, which is about 2-3 hours a day, and maybe some day I don't play at all and go eat Pizza with family and/or friends) I'm happy to have a way to get some of the endgame stuff, thanks to tomes. I am not willing to play a game who require more dedication to start endgame content, because I am one of the players who have something else in my life, and playing a game means having fun, not a job in which I have to dedicate my whole life to show off my gaming friends how much I am cool with that coolest Weapon Of Doom I got.
Still waiting for some action!
