Ugh, it's so slow. Hard to believe that was acceptable.

It's not bad, certainly much slower than ARR, but you have to remember they were sticking to the older MMO formula rather than the more "modern" one that ARR adopted (or as some would say, WoW style gameplay). Both have their pros and cons, the slower pace of 1.XX allowed for more skills per class/job than we have now, but they were on long timers (with no global cool down ones to my knowledge, I didn't play 1.XX much at all) and normal/auto attacks were more prevalent.
Like many in this community, if it isn't ARR, it's a terrible, terrible MMORPG, especially if it happens to be XI and XIV 1.23 and there was absolutely nothing good about it.
Not really - They were more hindered by TP cost if you weren't good at TP management or had Store TP materia - You also had more focus on combos that weren't just there for boosting potency a bit. They were on long timers (with no global cool down ones to my knowledge, I didn't play 1.XX much at all)

I think the exact same can be said of those who fanboy over XI and 1.23. There are pros and cons to both styles, neither is by nature better. It's all just personal preference, and there are people on both sides who tend to forget that.
What I miss about 1.XX is the Music and the Graphics ( tho my PC could not tolerate them at the time ).Exactly, 1.XX combat had a sort of.... rhythm to it, it's kinda hard to explain lol. And it was all about using smaller abilities to build your TP up for the stronger attacks, not like ARR where you are just burning through an already full meter.
There's a lot to like about ARR, i'm going nowhere. But had there are a LOT of things I miss/prefered about 1.XX, combat is one of them.
But I really miss the music, really, really, miss it, specially Thanalan at night.
I do not miss combat, it was too slow for me, I did not feel a rhythm like you, I felt frustrated to have to wait so long to execute a skill.
But that's just me ... and apparently allot of others too.
Exactly, both had/have good and bad sides but people only look at their own opinions :/
I see far more hate just mentioning SE's previous MMO/Previous FFXIV version, especially when said people even list the pros/cons though.
Well, the good news is that people are looking for something different, which may act as incentive for up-and-coming MMO developers. But the bad news is that, if a developer does find that "one-shoe-fits-all" MMO again, we're just going to repeat the cycle. Personally, I'm okay with players from different MMO backgrounds fanning out.
Basically this.
More people playing this game I feel hated XI then loved it. Outside my guild you mention XI people usually start talking about how horrible it was and how much better WoW/GW2/and insert almost any other mmo that is not XI was then XI. So should not be surprising people prefer the mainstream wow style. Most of them are from wow or similar games.
