Monk, Expected DPS, and Encounters

I have no idea how you managed to achieve 330+ dps at ilv83 with Flank Only, Esca. Cause everything I've done has proven otherwise.

Hmm, not sure what you are doing differently on the flank only parses, you can see I didn't use any other skills =/.

All I did was hit Perfect Balance, Spam Snap Punch x4 during it's duration, weaving in Internal Release, Blood for Blood, Steel Peak, and Howling Fist between each, then just repeating the Dragon Kick/Twin Snakes/Snap Punch combo over and over, using Steel Peak/Howling Fist on CD

i83 Gear being Hellish Claws, DL Head, CT Body, Allagan Gloves, Belt, CT Legs, Gryphonskin Feet (no materia melded), Allagan Neck, Titan Earring, Ifrit Wrist, Garuda Ring, DL ring of Striking

I'm not saying this is good, I'm just saying that with better gear and using correct rotation you should be able to get way higher than this I would think.

Seeing as how the MEDIAN for EVERY ability is higher for me, compared to you, it would stand to reason that strength (which you have more of with higher ilvl) raises your MAX DMG (which is why you hit a little harder with some abilities), and DET (which I have more of) raises your AVG DMG?

STR and DTR both increase your base damage. Period.

Average damage is dependent on your luck with the RNG.

It would have to be some pretty amazing RNG for me to have beaten his Median on EVERY ability, on EVERY parse that he had less DET than me. Also seeing as how all of my MIN hits are greater than his, it would make more sense that STR raises your max, DET your min (thus raising your Average inherently)

Have you run multiple parses to compare it to though? I have found the RNG factor to be pretty heavy in this game. Take crit for example. I have parses occasionally come out in the tune of ~10 DPS higher just because of getting lucky crits over the same time frame (4-4:30). In my experience most games level out over a decent period of time, and don't have the level of fluctuations seen in this game.

The Median is almost identical on every ability every time, and all beat OPs median every time, so it would appear Median DMG is NOT very RNG dependent, you just need some DET.

Well, I don't reeaally care what you personally believe, as long as you don't go trying to convince random people that STR is associated with max damage and DTR is associated with min damage. So, /shrug.
