DPS-ing as a healer.

I'm just wondering if anybody has actually tried this. With Cleric Stance, SCH/WHM basically becomes a DPS class. Now I'm not saying we are going to be the top all the time, but I'm wondering if anybody has tried some of the endgame content DPS-ing as a SCH or WHM.

I used to do this when I didn't have any viable DD job at 50, for fun. As in, having 2 healers in the party already and going in a 8-man instance as a 3rd healer designated to DPS 100% of the time. Sure, Summoner is great, but not when you have 30 MND and are not that geared to begin with. That being said, the content I've done this for has been pretty trivial when all is said and done. Titan HM, Garuda EX - stuff of that ilk. It's pretty fun but underwhelming in the end, because if you optimize your play (mainly on a SCH), you'll have the time to off-DPS while doing your healing duties as well as you are required to do. More engaging!

I'm the most boring person ever so I haven't really partaken in any of those "6 scholars, 2 tanks" -like festivities, but that would be fun. Pretty sure I saw a video of that for Titan EX and Ifrit EX. Hmm, might be a good idea while waiting for 2.2 to do something silly but fun like that!

It is not actually unheard of nor uncommon for healers to have sort DPS bursts.
My friends in particular always have the resident White Mage use her Holy when a lot of things need to die fast (normally one or two while the scholar goes overdrive) and the best scholar of the team normally finds some time to drop a couple of DoTs on things while things are slowing down.

And in slightly more trivial dungeons like WP we've done 4-WHM runs before and sincerely as i've levelled Scholar I've spend ALL the time DPSing on dungeons.

Yeah, easily. Though it's more viable as a SCH because you can change stance, dot, then go back again. WHM's DOT's are short lived and the rest are attacks themselves.

For Titan EX our SCH pretty much sat on Cleric Stance for 90% of the fight.

This is what I do. Although this has caused wipes so many times for an odd reason actually.... DPS was too good and he gets pushed to a different phase during goals and 1 healer gets trapped where the area falls off sometimes. Bad times indeed

It are no matter that DPS is "not a noun or a verb" like you claim, because it are not used how you think it should be used in video games. Yes, DPS are stand for "damage per second", but in video games (MMO in particular) it IS a noun or verb. It are not just an acronym.

Quit being a nuisance. The term FFXIV:ARR uses is DPS. Deal with it. You can't decide what they chose is stupid and correct people based on your preference. If they wanted to call the role BeachBallFlingers you would have to deal with me calling it that.

For SCH dps, I have explored and reached all heights. Some of my "personal" achievements:

On Garuda Extreme, my best is usually around 120-140 dps while solo healing.

On Titan Extreme, my best was 200 dps while "assisting" with heals in cleric stance. We 6 manned it with me and 2 other dps, the other two were carries who died at the start.

Have done CT solo heal from start to end, but dps'ing at the same time can suck here because of boss mechanics. No impressive numbers to report, but I haven't tested it much. Can't stomach too much CT.

I also dps 90% of Turn 1/2 to speed them up since they're boring as hell now. Though it's lower dps because of missed attacks, low accuracy. With the rumored (or confirmed?) i90 crafts for 2.2, I will work on getting my accuracy up with i90 overmelds. That should help with farming lower content faster and might consider stacking other secondary stats to go with high crit rate.

Though keep in mind, my dps stats are with my 12/12 BiS (allagan weapon). With current BiS for both WHM/SCH, 200 dps is probably the "top end" as tested on dummies and won't be beat until new 2.2 gear.
