At the same time it allows you to optimize your damage.

Like Alkimi said above healers/tanks get called bad all the time, but call a DPS real bad and suddenly the world is ending. If we can't hold DPS to the good/bad standards we place on healers/tanks then no one holds the right to complain about bad healers and tanks.

P.S. It doesn't take an elitist douche to use a parser. A parser is there for self/group improvement; the better you and your team are the more likely you can carry friends who aren't as good at the game. Simple as that.
How about doing the phases properly. You can parse really great and still wipe the pt for being an idiot, or worse, not being an idiot, but just a huge epeen.

We tell people to stop hitting ifrit during nails or he would enrage and wipe everyone. Do they listen no. They like their epeen.

We tell people to break the melee jail first and not titan. Do they listen, no not really. someone always get landslided every so often because they missed the push.

Parsing is not the end all or be all. You can parse badly simply by being good at what you do. I parse a full 40ps less because our DPS is so good in garuda, that I have to stand there like an idiot to wait for wicked wheel to spin. Should I go running in to wicked wheel to get a few more parses up? It won't make garuda go down any faster, and it just make it worse for the healers.

ARR is more about gimicks, which makes parsing even more evil as much as it does good. Saving CDs for certain phases, getting out of the way of certain phases, holding back certain phases, etc, etc, etc.
