Eh, I'm all for banning douchebags calling out bad dps. I play this to have fun. Call me bad, sure, but I believe I can pull my weight. I have 2 allagan weapons, might or might not be indication that I am doing at least sufficiently in fights, but I just don't d-bag people. If you d-bag people, you deserve the ban. That's what I personally think about parser, it's not bannable if you're helping yourself but if you use it to belittle people with no constructive criticism, I hope you get banned.

    STOP. JUST. JUST STOP.

If the community, as a whole, actually used parsers intelligently instead of using them to justify some sort of dps pissing contest, then they wouldn't be an offense worthy of the ban-hammer.

Sure, there are plenty of times a DPS is bad and doesn't know their proper situational rotation for whatever fight they're in. But there are also plenty of times that some dumb healer or tank is calling out a DPS that was just targeted for liquid hell 3 times in a row. Or was trapped in multiple conflags, or GAOLs. Or was dead due to some crappy healer paying more attention to a live parse than they were to healing the fight.

Not to mention, parsers aren't always accurate. Or someone says "wow, that drg destroyed you guys. he parsed XXX" when in actuality he used a single target limit break twice.

Parsing is the metric of the elite. But its a bad metric.

as one person mentioned, they are bannable offenses in that if you are harassing someone about their DPS, and they report you with screenshot evidence, then you could receive some disciplinary action.

I am on the fence about parsers. So many people run them and sometimes they're accurate, sometimes they're woefully inaccurate. I think they have gotten better and it is really the only way aside from DPS walls to know who out of the DPS isn't up to par. I really cringe when I hear that a PLD tank is outparsing a DPS as a tank with SO on.. that just shouldn't happen.

No need for a screenshot, SE has every chat log stored on the server, they just need to search for a player, location time etc, and that will evidence what has been said in game.

Using or talking about parsers themselves is not a bannable offense.
Using them as a tool for harassment is.

I parse, I openly talk about parsers with my own LS/FC mates but I never mention people's performance because people can see it as harassment.
No matter how friendly I try to bring it.

I can understand that. The quote I provided was an example of someone who sounded very much like not a fun a person.

Why would you feel entitled to say what's the correct way of having fun? People are, you know, different.

edit: Actually, now that I think about it, it's this kind of thinking that is causes the worst out of this community. People feel entitled to say how things should be done (use parser, get the best out of you, otherwise you are not having fun vs. get a life, play this video-game just for fun, this is not a hard-core game). And I say no to this. Find like-minded people with who you can enjoy the game the way you have most fun. Don't try to convince others that the way you do it is the best way to entertain themselves.

You must of missed Yoshi talking about it.

FF14's stance on parser is, fight club rule.

If you want to test how ban-able it is, please be banned quickly.

IF enough of these threads go through they would have to start being active about it and ban everything related to parsing. Good Job for making that one step closer.

It can't be detected anyway, so anyone using them can avoid ever being detected by simply not admitting to it.

So yeah, it's not being made any closer by these posts.
