Are the names for Elder Staff and Omnirod mixed up?

The name Omnirod is not fitting for a staff that's literally an old man tree face with moving eyeballs, whereas Elder Staff would be.

Hmm. Google translate says that is an Omni rod... so it is indeed not a localization error.

It's probably a mistake on the Japanese database side then. Clearly the items were supposed to be the other way around and someone messed up.

Well in FFIII (where all those primal weapons were optained around the crystal tower) it was the other way around as well. besides the elder staff making a minor appearance as SCH's base for the mystic weapon quest, they never got used again until now, so there is no real lore pattern to follow.
But usually the staffs are made of wood and the rods look more metal like which again points toward a mix up.

Though we already had a few of those topics and neither did they hot fix the item names nor was there any explaination on this matter. while it is a minor issue it would be just nice to get some info about it. I wonder if there are japanese concerns about this as well.

If you're not familiar with Shakespeare, look it up. Point is, it doesn't matter what something is called, all that matters is what it is and what it's meant to do. As long as function is there, the name is meaningless. Amongst all the issues that currently exist, this is probably dead last on the list of importance. xD

I think the real question is, "Does it really matter?"

Well, if you're making FF references in a FF game, would it matter if you call a Poison Dagger a Buster Sword and the Buster Sword the Masamune? Or if you call Shiva Siren and Siren Shiva? It matters in the sense there's obvious FF lore being pulled into this game and it gets mixed up because the design of XIV isn't suited for some of the lore.

They already stretched it to fit the FFVI Magitek in.
