I put this together as at the end of the trailer with Gilgamesh it looks like the bridge to Ishgard. I wonder if this is where it shows in the trailer.

I hope
Ishgard is the biggest bridge ingame, perfect for a Gilgamesh match.
2.0 coil -> 2.1 CT -> 2.2 coil -> 2.3 CT -> 2.4 coil -> 2.5 CT

While the area he's on definitely looks like a Coerthas zone, it's not the Steps of Faith (bridge shown in trailer has multiple pillars. Steps of Faith only has three per bridge). I honestly have no idea where that big bridge is O_o

It's probably one of then other two bridges in Coerthas. That said, that fadeout at the end tells me he's being introduced as a trial-type fight. Guess we aren't good enough to take on a duelist (a guy that does one-on-one fights) in a one-on-one fight. =/
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

Just as I suspected... and I agree that looks more likely that he's a trial type of battle. Perhaps this is exactly how we earn our right to access Ishgard: one must beat Gilgamesh and the goddess Halone will finally deem one worthy to enter.
"After ten years, finally headed to Sharlayan... absolutely stoked"
You've never taken Gilgamesh on one-on-one in gameplay unless you did "challenges". Every FF game that I've played to date you've always fought him in a party, even in Type 0.

Context is what matters in this case. Gilgamesh has pretty much just been there in prior FF games. Here he's introduced as a duelist that's challenging people and taking their weapons.
It'd be one thing if he had been introduced as this villain that randomly attacks groups of adventurers or soldiers and steals their weapons. Instead he's challenging people to one-on-one fights and taking their weapons. It stands to reason that the player character, being a cut above the average adventurer, blessed with the power of the echo and so on would single-handedly end Gilgamesh's pseudo-undefeated streak. The set up is definitely there.

To be fair, that's pretty much the exact same as he was in FF12. And honestly, I can't think of an exciting 1-on-1 fight in this game, or one of any length or depth. The only way to do justice to Gilgamesh demands a fight that requires a party. Especially when you account for Enkido, who they hopefully remembered to include.Context is what matters in this case.
