I see Allagan heavy armors numbers are around 158 as item level 90 and dark light heavy armor is around 258 as an item level 70. What is going on here? Which is actually better? I'm still not level 50 anyway but I would like to know what I should be working towards. Thank you.

Some items takes up the helmet/shoe slot like the DL heavy armor, because of that the armor includes the defense that you should be getting from a head gear. Lets say if you add the Valor Head + Body defense total, you will have more defense than DL heavy armor.

Defense and Magic Defense aren't that important anyway. If you look at Vitality, the i90 is 53 vit compared to 36 vit which is a lot.
