No, that term usage is from D&D (which in turn is the prime inspiration for FF1 to begin with) and from what I remember it was dropped very fast, i'm not sure there is even a single american release with that term use?
Ya, Ive never seen it in use in a single FF game (though Ive only played 3, 4, 5, 6, parts of 8, 9, 13)
I've never played FFXI, but I've never seen "+1" from any FF game from FFVII to FFXII (skipping FFXI ofc)
I actually thought that +1 is a homage to the "Infinity +1 Sword" trope. It's a very nice little culture reference (for me, at least). After all the serious tones of other RPG games
I actually prefer the look of the bow in that picture compared to the ugly Artemis bow
As a BLM, I approve this idea!i wish they can add specific effects to each weap available like maybe for sch (my main)
Improved zenith: gives chance to summon 2 fairies
leviathan weapon: make every aldo u cast crit
new t9 weap: gives god mode to every party member for 5 secs etc....
or for blackmage:
zenith +1: improve fire 3 proc chance by 50%! etc etc
not just plain new stats increase and BIS stats for us to choose etc
The 1.0 Relic staff actually had an "added bonus to Flare" effect, I don't recall exactly what that bonus was because at the time I couldn't hope to get one. But I think it added a higher DoT tic to the Flare spell, which was a zero range aoe type of spell with DoT. It was neat watching those spheres crash down into a massive explosion where you're standing lol
Hope they change the look of some. I hate how plain my bravura looks
There was item +1/2/3 at the start of the first version of FFXIV.
One information about the new relics is missing in the english version of the 55th letter of the producer. It's the name of these relic +2.Well my thought on that was they wanted the upgrade to be named, because just saying +1 gives no sense of ending. Zenith can mean upwards or the highest form. X Zenith is the highest that X can get. If the relics can be upgraded further, and they get a new name or transform into something else entirely, then it'd make sense.
Instead of just calling it X +2.
This name appear in the Japanese and french live letter.
Relic+2 are named "weapon of the Zodiac"
「ゾディアックウェポン」という概念もパッチ2.2からスタートするのですが、こちらはまた追々……。So.. we have ...Ce sera le début des "armes du zodiaque", mais je n'en dis pas plus.
- Relic weapons
- Zenith weapons (relic +1)
- Zodiac weapons (relic+2)

its a nice idea, just sad that you have no real options in the game. What I wouldn't mind them doing, and I'm not sure if they wanna go this route because of previous use, is the idea behind splitting your weapon in two or four directions:
Similar to FFXI, where you could get a weapon and upgrade it four times to it's master level, this one would be the first level of Curtana Zenith, and then you choose which path you want to go: More offensive, or more defensive. You then do a questline to unlock it, and you keep going down that path, always splitting your weapon into two paths and adding bonuses depending on what you want, or, latent abilities.
This would always grant us a way to improve on the relic weapon and give it a randomness and a unique property. Yes, there are some that will min/max but it'd be neat to have different properties.
There is 1 road for each job, ofc you can spec different, but that usually isnt wanted by anyone nor does it make sense.
In FFxi you had many ways of gearing, and ive seen people with uncommon gearchoices, yet they did just fine.
We now have a game where a Paladin survives 1-2 Big hits from a Boss and the rest gets one shotted.
As long as we have this Black and white - live or die - mechanics, it wont make any sense (sadly) to give people choices (we already have the fake choice of stat allocation that only leads to problems in cases like sch and smn)
The FF wiki still has a non-updated page for relics, most still listing the 1.0 effects for them (only Curtana is updated, but still has +1 in its name). As a BLM, I approve this idea!

Bravura: Lowers recast of Vengeance
Sphairai: Shoulder Tackle does more damage
Gae Bolg: Jump does more damage
Artemis Bow: Songs have increased duration
Thyrus: Holy does more damage
Stardust Rod: Flare's DoT is stronger

I would update, but lazy atm
