Though I hate the idea of relying on Google.

You can always use Drop Box and maybe even Sky Drive, and I'm sure there are others if you have something against google. There's no passwords or private data in these files or anything so it's not like there's a privacy issue.

My apologies. As you can see I barely have any posts and I'm still new to this game, and I figured all this out on my own. I did some forum searches and couldn't find any relevant results, I looked for "sync multiple computers", and now this thread is one of three that pops up with the other two not offering any setup steps, so maybe if that's how someone searches in the future they can find something.

I personally haven't used google drive myself, but I do use Dropbox for game saves and such like this. One thing I know about Drop box is they keep all changes to your files for the last 30 days, so if you mess something up, or the file is corrupted, you can restore a previous version. Google drive seems to have a similar function, but not quite as good.
