That's really when it starts. Take a person who feeds homeless on weekends and donates 50% of his income to charity, you drop him into an endgame dungeon and he becomes a ruthless, selfish, gear obsessed demon bent on domination.
I don't see your point.. you could say the same about this game. People that find the community lacking are probably also lacking a good Free Company, friends, or a good LS. Those things make the community good... and all those things you can find here as well.
Again, don't have anything against FFXI.. but it's not the holy grail of communities where nothing bad ever happens that people seem to try and perpetuate on these forums.
Well, to be fair, you did title the thread "Community in this game is unbelievable.".
Yep, you're correct. The community is what you make it. I'm also fortunate in that I'm playing with a ton of friends from XI and some new ones in XIV.I don't see your point.. you could say the same about this game. Oh Duty Finder! The ultimate love hate realtionship I have with FFXIV. It's good because you can save alot of time in completing content (especially if you're a tank or healer) yet run the risk of losing your sanity to derp players.
Honeslty I've come to the conclusion that aksing for structure in DF is an act of futility. Just don't expect things will go you're way, but hope they'll get done nontheless. That's my motto in DF
The best thing I ever did back in FFXI and now in FFXIV was make like minded friends. It's an investment for sure surfing through LS and FC's, but damn does it pay off when you find a good one!
Well, to me, the people in XI were more mature and willing to cooperate and help each other. There wasn't much you could accomplish solo. So people were respectful to each other. In my experience, if someone was struggling or wasn't quite understanding a job or mechanic, people would help out politely (usually in tells to not embarrass). There was just a completely different attitude.People that find the community lacking are probably also lacking a good Free Company, friends, or a good LS. Of course there were some mean and angry people too, but that was rare in my experience. Maybe people also had more patience too, since so much content required patience.
I think these days there are so much more me mentalities. You can tell by just reading these forums. For example:Well, to me, the people in XI were more mature and willing to cooperate and help each other. There wasn't much you could accomplish solo. So people were respectful to each other. In my experience, if someone was struggling or wasn't quite understanding a job or mechanic, people would help out politely (usually in tells to not embarrass). "I get MY **** done on Mondays, won't log on until next Monday."
"Why add filler activities (gardening, housing, vanity) it's so dumb"
"He's wasting MY time by not having warrior"
You get the point, I think that's the problem, so many me me mes it kills the comunity
And to me, that simply wasn't the case. Joining four years after start all on my lonesome I was met with a lot of people quick to kick without any attempt at explaining anything. My experience doesn't make FFXI's community worse anymore than your experience makes FFXI's community better. If we were going by personal experience, WoW would likely have the best community ever according to me because I found a group I played with for several years spanning a few different MMOs. I know that's not the case.Well, to me, the people in XI were more mature and willing to cooperate and help each other. There wasn't much you could accomplish solo. You can't generalize an entire community based on your (or my) personal experiences alone. Additionally, if you're going to dismiss someone's negative experience in FFXI because they didn't have the right group of friends (FC/LS), then you should also do the same for this game.. and it ends up going back to you just need a good group of friends in any MMO. That's my point, which I'll keep parroting until people stop pretending communities have somehow degraded catastrophically, and everything use to be peachy keen.
Edited to add: I -do- think there are more jerks playing now than there use to be, but I don't think that is a result of duty finder or whatever else. I believe it's more a result of more people gaming in general, which includes playing MMOs.. and when you get more people you get more of -all- types of people.

Is not just in this game, is in the gaming community in general, specially online since most of these kids are only tough when they're hiding behind their screens.
I compare it to visiting New York City and then visiting Portland, Oregon. People are generally much different between the two, and you can easily make a general statement about them based on your impression.
