    Welcome to the internet.
And for those defending FFXI, Lol. Seriously, come on. I can say the same for my experience with WOW. But that doesn't mean the game(s) is immune to humanity's deformed and mutated creations: Jerks. You can find them any/everywhere.

    This!

This game, like FFXI before it, often TEACHES new players little to nothing about many mechanics. Yes, at 30 you complete the last class quest and an NPC waffles something vague about other 'classes' (as far as I can recall the word JOB isn't mentioned) but gives someone totally new no good reason for them.

It's like in FFXI people used to berate 'noobs' when they went WAR/WHM .. the classic 'gimp PLD' .. but THE GAME TOLD THEM TO, the NPC in Selbina that gives you the sub-job unlock specifically tells you about WAR/WHM.

FFXIV isn't so blatant about giving newbies terrible advice but like FFXI before it, the game expect you to use Google to learn the 'rules' and the playhers expect you to use YouTube to learn the fights .. what happened to the concept of learning to play a game IN THE GAME ITSELF???

In fairness, I wouldn't want to have a WAR tank without Defiance there either.

I still wouldn't have raised a stink about it until we actually tried and started visibly having problems with progressing, though.

PLD doesn't get Sheild Oath until 40.
Yeah, and it really starts showing by then too.

IMO the levels for Sword/Shield Oath should be reversed.

I think it will be great if the class guildmaster, after clearing lv30 quest, gives you one (two) new quests asking you to visit the job(s) master. At least you then understand better where they are and what they do.

Actually don't think it happens for every class. I remember the PLD job starts with the guild receptionis, but if for some reason you miss a new quest pops up somewhere else after you completed the guildmaster 30's and you are new to the game, it is more likely you will notice it only at 35, when you return guildmaster thinking to get something new.

I remember I got my first clue about jobs, just because I saw by chance a red quest marker near my guildmaster when done 30.

    I can relate to this.

First time in Garuda Extreme, joined a Duty Finder group. I tell folks that it's my first time, but I've watched videos. Immediately people get all over my case, claiming I'm wasting their time and that I need to join a "learning group" on my server (yeah right; I've yet to see a party finder group that didn't have i85+ and experience as a requirement).

Healers both decide to just leave the party, and end up spending 15 minutes waiting for the abandon timer to go off.

Guess how the next three Duty Finder parties also reacted when I said I'm new to the fight? Exact same way.

The funny thing is that in any other game I've played, dungeon finder queries are supposed to be the ones where people accept that a lot of new people are going to be there. You're supposed to use dungeon finder to learn fights.

If you want to speed-run stuff you should be forming your own PF group on your own server.

How about making your own and stop complaining that there is no suitable groups for you ?

This should apply to people who want to learn stuff aswell.

Edit: I don't really mind players lacking a bit of experience in dungeons / CT / guildhests when using the DF. But when it comes to Ultima / HM / Ex primals / Coil, im pretty much "intolerant" to these players.

About the PF, im sick and tired to see random players joining my group of experiencied players ( yes we trully are ) and to notice within the first minute that theyre absolutely not. Be sure we will all leave instantly and kick said player right away. No need to tell em why, they are well aware of why we are kicking em.

Seriously, when the whole group has experience, do they really think we wont notice it? If so its very selfish.

As i said above, if you wanna learn a primal, its fine, but please for the love of Mog, make your own learning group and stop expecting to be carried by joining experienced groups.

Not really much to be said about this, sadly. I don't find duty finder a very good reflection on the quality of the people playing the game because 95% of the time with systems likea duty finder in MMOs you are trading community for convenience. It kind of naturally comes with the territory.

That said, I almost have all classes to level 50 now and I must say that my experiences with players in this game have been almost always positive.

I've never been booted, never had a fight, don't recall anyone rage quitting out, etc. I'm not sure where you guys are finding these groups, to be honest :P

Even if not, how often a new member that join a party even says hello anymore? i been in dungeons where no one even typed a single letter.

A bit more than in XI, but I don't see it as an issue. Most people will talk if others initiate a conversation.
a bit more? its a daily occurrence in PF. In a duration of single PF, u will at least get 1 person join and leave(even before the PF fills up).

I saw people ditch xp parties all the time in XI. Did you ever do merit parties? It was normal for people to join, farm like mad, then leave.
No one ditched just in a flash, Reputation matter in FFXI, unlike FFXIV. Remember waiting for replacement don't you? i guess you met lot of those bad players huh? i hardly saw much like that, maybe it has to do with the groups people we associated with.

Bad player(the trolls and disrespectful) in FFXI were treated like a dog with rabies.

Yeah, we definitely played a different game. I can tell you never participated any HNMs. The community is what you make of it. Engage in positive behavior and it will be reciprocated, but if you keep pining for a community that never existed (XI) you're going to leave disappointed.
FFXI community was in fact much better compared to FFXIV, maybe because they required you to strategize a lot, or maybe because Most of the NA's picked up on the JP's gaming respect for individuals, idk. That is lacking in FFXIV for sure.

I can tell you about my 4 yrs HNM career (i believe i was the 14th NA server wide to obtain Ebody back in early 2005, where most of the NA were still fighting sky gods, the name is Synapse) but i think that is depressing, it was nothing but drama, then again, i see many people use HNM scene as FFXI to bash in these forums, so not surprised.

I enjoyed these interactions in the other aspects of the games, such as limbus, dynamis, besieged, and those whole CoP, aht urgan contents, even going as much as TP burn parties and pankrations.

It's funny that people complain jobs are too restrictive and at the same time, they can't handle the variety classes can offer.
I had a healer immediately quit on my Brayflox dungeon run because I was still on THM instead of BLM. I enjoyed casting unlimited Stoneskin and all sorts of stuffs.
Granted, DPS should deal damage but if I can assist otherwise, why not? And seriously, if you seen the minimal stat bonus the job crystal grands (literally just 10Int and some VIT) and the lackluster level 30 skill (Convert), why the hell would I give up Internal Release, Stoneskin, Mantra, Virus, Eye for an Eye, Raise, Bloodbath, Blood etc etc.

After you get a couple of job only skills, it's advisable to switch to jobs. Some should switch immediately like Scholars (for obvious reasons) and some just can wait a little like GLA and THM.
