Communities for MMOs are pretty crap in general. FFXI was just as bad.. if you started as a newbie after people had got their feet sunk in then you weren't allowed to be new anymore without getting insults.. ditto goes for not playing the correct classes, or knowing the proper leveling spots.

The key to -any- MMO (including this one) is finding a group of people to play with that are nice, and share your ideals. The general public, and folks you run into while running dungeons, tend to be elitist jerks after an MMO has been out for a while.

If it's any comfort, I try to help out people who are new in dungeons when I run DF. Especially when I'm playing MNK and there's a new tank, I throw them as many pointers as I can.

Just remember: Not everyone's a jerk! I've met some awesome and really fun people in dungeons, and they deserve all the praise they can get for improving the community.

Actually other than Primals, I think most players in other dungeons/instances are pretty chill and cool. There are times where I just changed class to PLD and queued for roulette, insta popped and went in and forgot to turn on Shield Oath and pulled a few packs, after a few mins then I realized I forgot about it. Usually I'd just say "LOL shit I just realized I forgot about Shield Oath XD" and others would just "LOL" or "XD" (guess they didn't notice either). Didn't get any abuse or sorts.

There are also times where we get a new player or two in Haukke HM/Pharos Sirus, I would usually guide them through and sometimes others will help me chip in more tips and stuff.

I think the more nasty comments comes from Primals and CT. Personally I think it's because it's simply not a fight that could be facerolled, so people are kind of expecting people to at least watch videos or something and not screw everyone up. Other than that, the other instances are pretty laid back stuff.

SCH was right, but kinda overboard about it since a.) WAR tanked that dungeon just fine pre-2.1 when defiance was nowhere near as good as it is now and b.) WAR tanked that dungeon just fine pre-2.1 before they nerfed the whole dungeon.

As far as "should be mrd" for dps reasons, no not really.

As far as "this is unbelievable", it is *incredibly* rude to be the guy who comes in to a group situation obviously unprepared for his main role and expect to be carried. MRD should not be queueing dungeons jobless that level. Would they have been fine? Probably, but that's not the point. MRD was shoving a good chunk of his share of the work onto the SCH for no good reason.

Either way from the op screenshot, just from being unpleasant I'd kick him and let him go find a g group of people who never make "stupid" choices.

this all happened in the 1st 5 mins so the healer couldnt be kicked. Just after the tank logged off (and probably never coming back) is when we were able to vote kick the healer.

As for those of you excusing the healer... Sure, he probably should have gone after his job quests. But considering he claimed to not even have known it until a short while earlier, chances are he didn't have his secondary class levelled at all. And sure, maybe he should have focused on doing that. Maybe he shouldn't have done a dungeon run before he could get it.
Still, there are good ways to say things and bad ways. The first question, "why are you doing this as mrd instead of war?" is reasonable, but the way it escalated all too quickly is just... unbelievable to me. Well, not unbelievable, as I sadly can see it happen all too well, but I just don't understand why people do that.

I doubt the tank entered the dungeon expecting to be carried. Not if he was as inexperienced as he seems to be from that snippet of conversation. Why not just give it a go? If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, but to not even try? Surely spending even half an hour extra in a dungeon doesn't ruin anyone's tomestone gathering, right? O.o I mean, it's a weekly cap, not a daily, AFAIK. And from what I've read on the forums, most seem to be annoyed that they reach that cap with more than half a week to go till reset. So what gives?

Regardless, don't let other people tell you how to play or how to have fun with your game. In the lower level dungeons mistakes should be forgivable as they're there for learning and growing as a player. There is of course a big difference between mistakes and derailing a run for selfish reasons...like all these wonderful people we run into on late weekend runs of CT, Ultima, or Primals...oh the joy

I don't consider myself an elitist. I consider myself to be someone who understands this isn't a single-player game; things I do when not solo affect real people, real people who probably enjoy beating on things more than being beaten, or even enjoy doing things efficiently rather than taking longer than needed.

Maybe you're just one of those players that should be playing single-player games and not with other people? No offense, there are certainly times I like to do whatever I want without worrying if other people I'm playing with will think of it.

The biggest irony of this thread is that OP says the community is unbelievable, when it's the fact that it is a community in the first place that completely defeats his point.
