Ok I'll bite.
Was the community in FFXI better or worse than FFXIV ? I can't really say.
The HNM community was hell of course. But the normal community was kinda elitist too. Do you remember the loldrg stigma ? When BLM was absolutely needed then not needed at all resulting in manaburn party ? What about Beastmaster ? They never got into a party. But thanks to no Duty Finder people didn't really go into an argument because those jobs never got invited. And people were mostly polite while being an ass
Though people had to be elitist because the party mechanics were more important and if you failed hard you would surely kill your group.

The beastmaster community was good though. A beastmaster would ask before going to a camp and would gladly party with another beastmaster. There were some unwritten laws shared by all beastmasters. Probably because they were rejected by everybody.
