I'll spread this around the few boards I chat on about this game.

I remember entering a post 30 dungeon as a Gladiator instead of a Paladin by mistake and two people giving me shit... refusing to fight as I pulled mobs. Eventually they quit, two more people joined, and we completed the dungeon. I wanted so bad to message them and thank them for leaving, but they were on different servers.

OP if this was a Final Fantasy game, it would have a respectful community like XI did, sadly this is a generic fantasy, it is designed to take in all types of players.
All this game is doing introducing FF fans with other MMO attitude and eventually making FF fans into an a-holes.

Sub job items, Limit break 1-4, and af....Yea the ffxi community was toxic back then unless you were a brd, rdm, or bst.

There are times you want to use the class instead of the job. The reason why I say that is because of the fact that you can use cross class abilities that might grant you access to (de)buffs your job does not have access too at that particular level.

For instance, stoneskin.

There's almost never any time you want to use classes once you can equip your Job as the cross class abilities doesn't outwieght the gains you get from your stone - That includes stoneskin as unless it's from a WHM, it's gimped.

I've played XI since it's Japanese beta and I can promise you I've never ran into anyone who wouldn't help unless you paid them 100k, you've confused FFXIV with FFXI - Where people pay to get carried through content or did you magically forget primal and t5 selling? I played on Fairy, Shiva, Kujata, Titan, Phoenix, Lakshimi and (as of now) Asura - Never had to pay for help. People did pay for Fellcleave parties in Abyssea though.

The only people who had to pay for help usually had bad reputations.

I honestly don't have any memories of douchebags on this level.. there was your occasional idiot but for the most part the community when i played in 2005-2007 was very good.. even had random WHM's in dunes just going around healing parties cos they were bored not cos they were asked or paid lol

To me, It's actually more difficult to heal a class than a job, especially if he hasn't got a good gear. And I say more difficult, not impossible.
I did it on Qarn, the tank was a Gladiator undergeared and I was WHM. One the DPS had the same reaction as your healer had all the way. I said I could manage it, and did fine until second boss where I couldn't keep everyone alive. (I think I'm a bad healer anyway)

The tank apologizes for not being PLD and left. DPS was happy about it... Thankfully, that can be seen as harassment, so votekick was justified.

It was a cesspool filled with at least as many assholes as there are in any MMORPG.

It was my understanding that the majority of ENG speaking FF fans are d-bags. Clothes don't make the man, this community gets a bad rep because people forget their humane side when online. In contrast look at a person who plays with the Japanese, it's like night and day. The game didn't do this. People just changed.
