This is the soul reason why I haven't done Ex primals or coil. You screw up people automatically start saying you don't know your job. I froze in CT and when I came back after restarting my system the Lalafill tank went off on me, " YOU WEREN'T HEALING!"
*Hasn't been on SCHO and WHM since*
They want to lecture someone but can't even type/speak coherently? At least when I get into arguments it's not full of half-words and text speak. It's actually coherent and understandable English.
Unfortunately the community on the forums aren't usually much better, this is the nature of MMOs, at least in FPSs it's the same crap I've heard a dozen times before when someone screams into a mic with swearing, in XIV or any other MMO-like game, people try to really dig into someone because there's no perceived tone or voice, they could be truly upset with someone and want to put them in their place, or they could be laughing about it while they're griefing someone else.
Unless they state what they're truly meaning before they say it or as the say it, there's no way to know for the person that's being targeted if it's supposed to be positive reinforcement or negative.

Yeah of course there were no douchebags in Final Fantasy XI that game was the direct example of all that is good and just in the world.OP if this was a Final Fantasy game, it would have a respectful community like XI did, sadly this is a generic fantasy, it is designed to take in all types of players.
All this game is doing introducing FF fans with other MMO attitude and eventually making FF fans into an a-holes.
I wonder how healthy and productive for the community all the "I HATE THIS COMMUNITY!" ranting is, where half the threads on general seem to be screenshot rants complaining about everybody who posts those threads runs into.
I do my very best greet and meet all new players, especially in dungeons, providing them with a warm welcome, tips on how-to and support if they make any mistakes, aiding them to understand and come to be better at the game, giving them a proper chance at being able to enjoy and love the game.
I will not surrender!
Question: Is it rude to tell someone they are playing an aspect of their job incorrectly in front of other people? Example: I see DRGs who use Power Surge and DragonFire Dive all the time, not realizing Power Surge doesn't affect DFD at all. I would like to say something to them, but since you can't send a /tell in instances, I usually don't. I don't want to be offensive and call them out in front of the party.
So many wise players on these forums.

I honestly don't care about other people's gear/class/job.
I'm not really a fan of speed runs. I'm only playing a video game because I have some spare time to relax and have some fun. I don't care if we even complete the dungeon as long as we had a good time.
I dislike the attitude where the game is a race to have all jobs i90.
If I had ben in the party with the OP, I would have excused myself from the party and left.
I knew a lot of very nice people in FFXI. I think the big difference is that in FFXI we were all from the same community and the same server. In FFXIV when we are in a dungeon we are usually with 3 other random people out of 1.8 million players.
After years of FFXI I knew a large portion of the players on my server. You knew who was nice, who was rich, who was a jerk and who was hacking. In FFXIV it's almost like you can get away with any type of bad behavior, in a dungeon, because you'll probably never see these people again.
Usually I'd say to send them a tell, but as you mentioned, you can't do that here. I don't think it's rude -if- it's worded correctly. The OP's example was someone being rude. In that example, I likely would have went something like "I was just wondering if you knew that you could be a Warrior starting at 30, and it'd unlock a tanking skill called Defiance?"... or... since they mentioned they were new, "In case you didn't know, you can unlock your job at level 30, and get job quests from there. It has some useful skills for tanking.".. and then elaborate from there.Question: Is it rude to tell someone they are playing an aspect of their job incorrectly in front of other people? I've ran across people that didn't realize you get job skills every 5 levels. They just knew sometimes there was a quest there but not how often, or tried to go back to the class place and saw nothing available so thought it ended. So a portion of that often depends on level, or if they announce they're new to the game. If it's an endgame dungeon and it's something like that Paladin doesn't have shield oath up, I'll straight up just say "FYI, shield oath isn't active". That's something a lot of people forget to do. I know both tanks in our guild have forgot it during raids.. it's immediately noticeable when we have (I'm one of them), but mistakes happen, we're all human.
Some people may still get offended (I've never personally ran into someone who does, but have heard stories) as some folks just take any type of helpful comments as insulting. Overall though, I think you'll find people widely welcome advice when you're nice about it.
