Um, perhaps I'm misremembering, but I thought final sting used to normally oneshot tanks if you didn't kill the bees fast enough? As in, this was a DPS race mechanic.

Was that nerfed in 2.1 too?

IIRC, Final Sting damage is directly proportional to the remaining hp of the bee. ie if it hasn't been attacked then it would do very little or no damage, whereas if it has 2 hp left, it will likely one shot you

With the i13 gear, does it have to be NQ? Or can they be HQ?

HQ if you want, it makes no difference at that level :3 (Maybe like 1 defense or accuracy at best).

Yeah, that's possibly how it works. We almost killed it but it destroyed the tank. They nerfed that in 2.1 though, booooo.

The warrior works better for Qarn in that regard (due to the boost in their HP from defiance, while the pld has to wait til lv 40/45 ?). I usually tell my dps to ignore totally the bee and focus something else (except if there are 2 of them) and tell the healer to shield me (either SS or aldo) right before the sting. It never hurted me much.

Can't change jobs mid run, and we hardly did it with an optimal setup, that takes the fun away. We would have took a BLM if we wanted to make it easy but easy isn't the name of the game .


So we did a small run last night to test how it would go if we tried doing it with iLvl 13 weapons in Brayflox assuming a worst case scenario (RNG not giving us any weapons we wanted, like what we saw last run) and we got wrecked on the first boss.

Pretty much proving, if we were to do low level weapons too, the run would end quickly and be no fun for anyone, so we have to cut a few corners to ensure that we dont spend 3 hours in one dungeon and actually get to do something. No point running it if its boring for us and boring to watch :|.

I've seen plds eating the hit like no problem, but it's true that it hurts a lot. Good luck passing it

That's interesting and I wasn't aware of this aspect of the ability. I just remember the first time i did Qarn, the priority was to either sleep the bees or stun when Final Sting came up because it was that threatening.
