Yoshi-P said that they wanted to add a new class and jobs through patches before the first expansion, but his most recent statement comes from an unofficial translation where he said the expansion would have 1 new class/job. Something might have been lost in translation, but to me it seems like we shouldn't expect new classes/jobs before the expansion. Sadly.

So, if you use common logic, adding a new class and/or job = at least 15 new skills, which means new skills would have to be added to every other class in order to keep "the balance" - so at this point we know it's expansion when we'll see them. He's said a lot of things that changed by now.
Actually, if you use real common logic, adding a new class/job would mean that said new class/job would have the same number of abilities as the current classes/jobs. It certainly doesn't mean that adding a new class would require giving all the other classes new abilities.

FFXIV has a lot more endgame content than FFXI had at the same point of its life. The difference is that it takes a lot less time to get gear here, which is not necessarily bad or good, just different. When I started playing FFXI, the only endgame it had was camping kings, dynamis and sky.
