crafting is nice, for how much skill it requires? What I cant understand is people wanting to make millions from doing very little, or wanting bis gear w/o stepping foot in a dungeon.

So I guess the question is why is everyone upset the craft gear not as good as we're even better than done that seems to be the gist of all the arguments?
Back in 1.0, the best gear in the game was relics (which actually took a long time and were difficult to get) and darklight gear, which if I recall, both required doing speed runs through dungeons (note that tomestones didn't exist back then). Under that was Militia gear, which came from hamlet defense and was not crafted, then AF, which was actually useful both stat-wise and due to effects that boosted the potency of your job's moves.

All that aside, crafted gear (such as HQ cobalt armor) could potentially compete or surpass that gear through the use of materia melding, which didn't have stat caps in 1.0. For a while, I remember having an HQ Lightning Brand with 2 or more INT/attack magic potency was preferred over some of the primal weapons for BLM. The thing was, if a forbidden meld failed, then the item you were trying to meld was also destroyed along with the materia and catalysts, and you'd have to start all over from scratch. It required a lot of money, but it could also potentially give you a lot of money if you ended up selling a nice piece with some unique melds on it. Also, crafted gear remained tradeable after spiritbonding with it (giving it to someone else just reset the spiritbond), so you could still sell something off if you didn't need it anymore.

Fast forward to ARR, and now all the gear has very cut-and-dry stats with stat caps on materia (many that can't be used at all because the gear already has that stat on it), and no special abilities. It really removed a lot of the customization and variety between character builds.

well honestly... crafting is fine. what needs changing is Materia. for example like a healer item. the Vanya Healing items. they have Mind caps of 0. and Strength caps of 7+. which is just silly. while there is an extremely small use for STR on a healer. there is like virtually zero chance anyone will actually utilize it. especially since we can't get good one-handed end game staffs.

i think maybe just change the way materia slots work. remove the stat cap. make it so you can only slot a materia of certain level matching the gear. and then maybe also make it so you can only slot one of the same kind of materia in each item.

Just like crafted i70 gear that require philo items can be better than darklight when melded, next tier of crafted gear will be better than myth gear when melded... Providing a different stepping stone towards the next tier of Coil...

I craft a ton on my main. Spiritbind accessories, house furniture, levequest request items, gear for my numerous alts, 2 star items for pretty much my entire FC, pentamelded as much as possible..

I still consider myself a "main" goldsmith more than any of my other jobs, and would love to see crafting more useful. The crafting minigame is fun, going out and gathering components feel more interesting to me than running the same dungeons for currency for my gear.

I'm very sad when my most of my penta-melded crafted gear gets replaced by a coil drop or mytho purchase. At least in the meantime, I'm slightly ahead of the full darklight crowd.

i think what most crafter want, is not make gears as good than dungeon, but to have a purpose. recently all mmorpg are divided into this at higher level: Pve and Pvp and that all!
it's sad to have a soo good craft... and leave it like a sub activity that can't have a bigger purpose for the person that want to dedicate to it.

i really hope that in the futur they will give content only for crafter and gatherer... something other than being there as sub activity

Anything that's easy to do won't have too much of a benefit because everyone else can do it. It's just more for self sustaining
