crafting is the best way to earn Free Company Credits.
crafting is nice, for how much skill it requires? What I cant understand is people wanting to make millions from doing very little, or wanting bis gear w/o stepping foot in a dungeon.

well honestly... crafting is fine. what needs changing is Materia. for example like a healer item. the Vanya Healing items. they have Mind caps of 0. and Strength caps of 7+. which is just silly. while there is an extremely small use for STR on a healer. there is like virtually zero chance anyone will actually utilize it. especially since we can't get good one-handed end game staffs.
i think maybe just change the way materia slots work. remove the stat cap. make it so you can only slot a materia of certain level matching the gear. and then maybe also make it so you can only slot one of the same kind of materia in each item.
i use crafting for meld help players.
i make food for this game
imake my self lowbi armor sometimes so thats why i craft.

Just like crafted i70 gear that require philo items can be better than darklight when melded, next tier of crafted gear will be better than myth gear when melded... Providing a different stepping stone towards the next tier of Coil...

I craft a ton on my main. Spiritbind accessories, house furniture, levequest request items, gear for my numerous alts, 2 star items for pretty much my entire FC, pentamelded as much as possible..
I still consider myself a "main" goldsmith more than any of my other jobs, and would love to see crafting more useful. The crafting minigame is fun, going out and gathering components feel more interesting to me than running the same dungeons for currency for my gear.
I'm very sad when my most of my penta-melded crafted gear gets replaced by a coil drop or mytho purchase. At least in the meantime, I'm slightly ahead of the full darklight crowd.

i think what most crafter want, is not make gears as good than dungeon, but to have a purpose. recently all mmorpg are divided into this at higher level: Pve and Pvp and that all!
it's sad to have a soo good craft... and leave it like a sub activity that can't have a bigger purpose for the person that want to dedicate to it.
i really hope that in the futur they will give content only for crafter and gatherer... something other than being there as sub activity
Anything that's easy to do won't have too much of a benefit because everyone else can do it. It's just more for self sustaining

Crafting has limited services to provide in the game. The problem is most of these are not sustainable crafts.
- Crafting consumables items Food and Potions
 - Crafting gear to convert into materia
 - Crafting for leves or supply missions
 - Crafting consumables furniture
 - Crafting their class quest items
 - Crafting their own crafting gear
 - Crafting intermediate gears, which serves as a stepping stone for next gear set, this includes PvP gear

which Nekodar already mentioned this a few times.
Such as most furniture are purchased once, and does not need to be replenished.
Class quest items, will eventually dwindle away as more people complete their quest.
Similarly, the intermediate gear levels vanishes as more people reaches level 50.
And of course crafting their own gear set is only a one time investment.
The only few sustainable crafts I see are Food, SB items, and leves/supply missions.
Even supply missions are a bit iffy, since there isn't much to buy from the Grand Company.
Grand Company gear serves as a stepping stone as well, and any of the vanity items are a one time purchase. The only sustainable item there is the one that resets your stats, The keeper's Hymn
