How open is the game world??

I tried the ps 4 beta, but didn,t really get to far into the game. I was wondering how open the world feels? Is it more like Kingdoms of Amular open or more like Skyrim open?

All of the dungeons and endgame content are instanced if that's what you're getting at.

Story and quest-wise, I suppose FFXIV is closer to Kingdoms of Amalur in that it directs you from quest hub to quest hub through the story and each hub has level-appropriate content. You may choose to ignore these guideposts and travel through the world map at any point, although some monsters may make it more difficult to travel through certain areas than others and you will eventually have to return and finish the main story quests to unlock content. Some areas can only be unlocked through quests or story quests. The story doesn't allow as many meaningful choices as the above games either, and the consequences of your choices are largely superficial. There are achievements and some bonuses for exploring, but it is not as rewarding as either of the games you mentioned.

Gameplay-wise, I would really have a hard time comparing it to either. I would really suggest you play a little more. There's nothing we can say that will help explain the game better to you. Just know that the game is definitely different from both of the games you listed.

It depends on your play style a bit. For instance, if you collect all the Aetherytes and teleport everywhere, the world is very small. However, if you don't mind taking the slow road and riding your mount, taking boats or airships to get to where you want to go (which has the added benefit of not blowing all your gil on fast travel), then the world is much more open, and there's room for exploration.

It's really up to you. I take the slow route.

The world is pretty large and open although it may not feel like it at points, as its been subdivided into zones to reduce loading times and system requirements.

FFXIV 1.0 was actually extremely open and quite a bit more expansive, but it was also a pain to travel anywhere because there wasn't really any mounts or other faster travel at first.

If you want the game to continue to feel expansive, I'd consider minimizing your teleporting from Aetheryte to Aetheryte. That makes the world seem quite a bit more closed off since it's just quick hops between zones.

the world isn't that bad. its kinda big. Also it is only 2.1 atm. There are multiple areas currently blocked off for expansions. I am pretty excited for 3.0 areas.

I do miss the expansive world of FF11 though... but There is time for FF14 to grow
