    Time passes when I play Duke Nukem Forever, but I don't/can't check the time in an in-game feature.
    Time passes when I play Super Meat Boy, but I don't/can't check the time in an in-game feature.
    Time passes when I play DoDonPachi, but I can't check the time in an in-game feature.
    If you have a clock inside your room, or simply your watch or handyphone, you'll check time very often if you have appointments or if it's almost time to eat.
    You don't need an interface element to keep track of the time. Dang, I play Fullscreen without Steam support (which lags my game) and it's me who times for Behests and Low-ranked NMs

However being able to take one of these UI elements, and turn it into something that enhances my game play, and allows me to relax and enjoy the game, I do not see why some people are so opposed to an optional item, that takes a few moments to develop, that would allow many other players to enjoy the game better. Its not like this is a Jump vs No Jump debate, its a simple clock.

    I've pretty much agreed with the OP throughout this thread, and here is where I especially feel the need to speak up. We already have a UI element that shows us the in-game time and moon phases. How hard would it be to incorporate real time into this existing widget? It wouldn't add any extra clutter.

    I got your point. Which means I got your point but I didn't want to discuss about it because it's a personal thing of yours =)

    As far as I know by playing ANY game, it Doesn't break immersion, because sooner or later you'll have to keep contact with the real world, about things you've said before. That's in ANY game.
    Then if checking the clock on your wall breaks immersion, the clock inside the game breaks it too, because you keep contact with the real world messing with what you're doing in that moment. And don't Both keep you constantly worrying you about the time?

However these have a use for some people, and they are tiny, so its not really an issue.     Do you remember in FFXI? Time played a very important role on the elements. ALso, remember that the Dev team is going to give the Guardians, the Date of Birth of your character and the Elements regarding the Moon Phases (which is already implemented, a lil... clanky, whatever it means) a meaning to be important into the game, so that will be important/vital informations in the future.

    Also, I'm not opposed to the implementation of a Real Time clock. I just can't see the need. I would like to have it, but I don't desire to have it.

    I disagree. I played FFXI from (PC, US) launch, up through WotG and, with very rare exceptions (avoiding wights in qufim, for example) I never used the in game clock. But even were it to play a pivotal role in FFXIV at some future point, one that couldn't, almost as easily be determined by a real world clock, or looking at the sky/weather, I would still choose a real world clock over this because the events in my real life, are more important than the events in game (I know, blasphemy, but its true!).

You can force yourself to "not be so immersed" so that time does not "fly" but this ruins the experience for many. Think of trying to watch a movie, with kids running around, being noisy, etc... It is very hard to "get into" the movie, when you are distracted and cannot relax and focus on it. On the same token, it is very hard to get into the game if I am distracted by time. With many isolated examples (like the above) one could simply schedule better, but when the distractions are not individual isolated events, but on going "always there" responsibilities, it becomes much more problematic.

    To be honest, I am surprised that just having an on screen real world clock affects my overall gameplay experience to such a degree, but after having it on for a couple months, I notice very quickly when I forget to start XFire when playing FFXIV. Having the on screen clock, allows my mind to subconsciously relax and focus on the game. I do not even have to notice the clock to see it (if that makes sense), and when I have been playing for awhile, or I am getting close to a time when I should do something (go to sleep, feed kids, whatever), I "just know" and its great.

    I do not think you are understanding my reasoning with immersion.

    It doesn't. I'm just disagreeing to the fact that having a clock is needed, and I agree that it's a good feature to have. Also, having a clock on screen and a clock on the wall is the same to me. I just know the time and it's great too =)

    Two different likes and two different dislikes. From the word of the people here, they seem to desire this feature, so we'll most likely have it.
