This would only be a partial solution as the amount of time the clock is visible on the screen would be drastically reduced, so you still either have to consciously choose to look at the time, or hope that you catch the time on the random times that my menu pane is open. We already have an on screen date/time it is just game world, not real world, what harm would there be allowing you to choose which time you wish to show?

I could also have a little sound effects box sitting at my desk and make my own sound effects, a tape a cape to my screen so my character looks cooler, though I would much rather have these built into the game. (Yes, I realise that these examples are a bit extreme compared to a clock!)

Granted I do not know of any MMORPG that (officially) has a real world clock displaying on screen, so I am not holding my breath for such a feature, but it would be nice to have and how does SE know what features we would like to have unless we tell them?

Have you never been playing a game late at night, not been tired at all, and at some point happened to look at a clock and said "Oh man, its really that late? I should have been to bed an hour ago!" Even setting phone alarms, or any such devices are not really a solution to this, I am sure many of you have snoozed an alarm before (maybe you have to finish this leve, or do this craft, or whatever), and went back to whatever you were doing, only to later realise you got drawn back in again. With an always on, on screen clock, it makes you notice the passage of time a bit more, and you are always aware of what time it is.
