This thread is the perfect example of 3rd party add-ons to come later down the line. Once SE starts supporting & allowing us to modify the GUI, it would be cool to see little things like this popping up.
Community Reps:
Does the Dev. Team still want to support user add-ons at some point?
I tried it for a while but I still kept hitting ALT+TAB when I wanted to browse the web so I went back to windowed mode with a resolution the same size (near enough) as my screen. I have the task bar at the bottom and a few pixels at the top but nothing major.
You know you can script in full screen windowed mode, right?

A clock on the screen wouldn't be a bad thing. Convenience and that's it. I highly doubt that the work needed to put a clock on the screen would take that much time (seeing as how the info is already there, and they should have some type of model/object for widgets, etc..)

Yeah it should be fairly painless as the foundation is already there, just a matter of having the text string that shows the game time, alternately show the real time, which is information that FFXIV already obtains (as seen by /clock). It would be nice to not have to run some larger application like XFire or Steam just for a clock on a game (and as I said, when the PS3 version comes out, we wont have that option). Its just one of those things that would make me love FFXIV more, and I hope they add it. Or at the very least, as someone said, allow for user UI mods.A clock on the screen wouldn't be a bad thing. I don't foresee implementing a real world clock widget being a content halting issue. The Eorzea clock widget is up. /clock reveals the time, so the number is being passed in to FF14 (if memory serves, not at the game right now). Let the widget toggle the Eorzea clock to display real time.
For those questioning against a clock widget, the next time you walk around an office environment and see how many cubes have a separate clock at their desk. Or at home, how many folks don't have a separate clock at their computer or don't bring a phone to the computer. They usually don't, because the computer clock is enough. It's easy for people to lose track of time if the clock/time isn't present to make them more cognicient of the time. All the time, I hear, "Wow it's that late already?" "Holy cow, it's time to go?" or "Why is there a half naked lalafell in my bed?"
Yes to the clock widget reflecting real world time.

I wouldn't mind having a clock, but I wouldn't want it to be on the main screen. However, putting it at the top of the menu pane would be perfect.

This would only be a partial solution as the amount of time the clock is visible on the screen would be drastically reduced, so you still either have to consciously choose to look at the time, or hope that you catch the time on the random times that my menu pane is open. We already have an on screen date/time it is just game world, not real world, what harm would there be allowing you to choose which time you wish to show?
I could also have a little sound effects box sitting at my desk and make my own sound effects, a tape a cape to my screen so my character looks cooler, though I would much rather have these built into the game.(Yes, I realise that these examples are a bit extreme compared to a clock!)
Granted I do not know of any MMORPG that (officially) has a real world clock displaying on screen, so I am not holding my breath for such a feature, but it would be nice to have and how does SE know what features we would like to have unless we tell them?
Have you never been playing a game late at night, not been tired at all, and at some point happened to look at a clock and said "Oh man, its really that late? I should have been to bed an hour ago!" Even setting phone alarms, or any such devices are not really a solution to this, I am sure many of you have snoozed an alarm before (maybe you have to finish this leve, or do this craft, or whatever), and went back to whatever you were doing, only to later realise you got drawn back in again. With an always on, on screen clock, it makes you notice the passage of time a bit more, and you are always aware of what time it is.

If you're so out of touch with time that you need a clock constantly staring you in the fast, that's a problem YOU need to fix, not something the game should be forced to accommodate for. This would only be a partial solution as the amount of time the clock is visible on the screen would be drastically reduced, so you still either have to consciously choose to look at the time, or hope that you catch the time on the random times that my menu pane is open. While I agree that it wouldn't be a huge issue to add it to the interface, the same can be said of many other things. As I enjoy the very clean UI the game currently has, I'd rather it not be cluttered up by something that I consider superfluous. If it can be toggled off, it's less of an issue, but as I said before, I think a good compromise is just to put it on the menu screen.
