New Player Checking In!

Hello,

New to the game (and mmorpgs) and had a couple questions that I was hoping people could help me with.

1. I'm playing on the PS3 and notice that the targeting is getting really confusing. Often in battles, I find the system not targeting what I expect or targeting totally unrelated NPCs or party members. I've tried messing around with the settings and not found the best setting to prevent this. Any advice?

2. I just finished my first dungeon last night and had a blast. Ended up using the duty finder and was lucky to find a good group that was willing to work with me. I've seen suggestions that I should try to find a free company to help me through dungeons so I have some people willing to help a new person learn the class. Any advice on finding such a company? When looking around on the server it seems as though everyone is looking for experienced members to do endgame. I'm playing as Eoghan Lir on Balmug.

Best thing to do for targeting is left and right on the dpad to cycle thru enemies and up and down to cycle thru party members... As for finding a helpful FC group, find a small FC they seem to be more helpful... Best way to do this is to do a shout... Don't spam shout area's just one shout and you should get some reply's...

Unfortunately I can't really help you on your first question, as I play on the PC version and use a keyboard for targeting, but I do know there is a target filtering system in the system settings which can be adjusted so that the cursor will automatically select only certain targets, or disabled completely.).

As for your second question, a 'Free Company' is much like a player Guild from other MMOs - they're a formal organization of players who work together like an actual group - they feature things as having their own housing, access to a communal 'company chest' where items and gil can be stored for use by all members, and having bonus status effects that can help members (like exp bonuses, reduced teleporation rates etc). As well, FCs also can have their own crest which the owner can design and which members can have appear on their armour, which really helps a player feel like they belong to the group.

You can only be in one FC at a time though, so if you want to join another one, you'll have to first leave your original one. FC owners like to advertise in the server forums, so take a look at the section for your server (Balmung), and I'm sure you'll find one recruiting (especially as Balmung has a very large roleplaying community so you're highly likely to find one that is more than welcoming of a new adventurer!).

1) There's some configuration changes that can make targeting easier. I wrote an explanation in another thread a couple days ago, so instead of explaining it again, just check this link to my previous post:

2) Balmug is a legacy server, so has an even higher percentage than the others of players who are at level cap, but it should still be possible to find groups that welcome new low-level members (and are actually welcoming, not just let you join and ignore you until you're at their level). You can try checking out the Balmung forum to try and find suitable groups. (And yes, there are a lot there looking specifically for endgame players, but look around. There's a few others mixed in there as well.)

I play on the ps3 as well. Its not so bad when you get used to it. The post from Niwashi actually helps a lot. The only issue I have is with the pet system for ps3. I hate the controls and lack of hotkey controls. You have to constantly do more work to master the Arcanist classes on ps3 lol

As for FCs Taika pointed you to the right direction. Its always a good idea to check your servers forums.
