What makes a good PvP for you?

.I know a tiny portion of the games total population actually PvP's in this game. This thread is to discuss PvP for those of us who actually play it and would like to spend most of our endgame fighting other players, because that's just what we do. I for one think there is sooooooo much potential in this game to deliver the best PvP and RvR when they add Front Lines.

What would you like changed about the PvP system, and what would you like added?

I would love an addition for a full party of 8 to fight in the arena as it will give more options for strategy than to just kill the one healer and black mage to go for a win. More options means more skill will win, making it a better system.

Allow one on one fights, excluding the healing class if necessary. If you want to do one on one it will or should be a fighting class. Healers will still be able to compete in team fights as they want, no problem, but it gives us 1 on 1 lovers to test our skills alone.

I would also suggest adding Ilvl 80 weapons for people who reach rank 20 in PvP. Because as it currently is, the grind from 24-30 is sooooo long and tedious that it rewards too little in the amount of time spent grinding. You want your players to be motivated and keep on playing your game, thus giving you more subs and more money.

I however like how long it takes to achieve level 30 in PvP, it should take a long time to reach the maximum level, and it's a great feeling when you get the ilvl90 PvP gear, it is very good statwise, even when used in PvE.

Not much is known about Front Lines but if it is anything like what many think it is, that will be great. An open world where you can be a target at anytime. I would suggest letting players be geared with their PvE and PvP gear in this world, and not exclude any. although PvP gear will still have the bonus of morale of course, I would translate it into the Front Line map.

Don't do what Guild Wars did. That game in RvR is a zergfest, with no solid community. I played there for the first 2 years since release and there are some flaws that totally put me off. Let enemy names be clear, you want to get to know the RvR community, this builds character in a game and makes it more fun for the community. Allow all players of all levels in the map. Yes 'noobs' will be owned but that's what is fun if the map is well thought out. I played a game where you can be a level 1 and enter the 'warzone' and it is simply thrilling. It makes you want to level up to compete at the same pace as higher level players to help defend your side. It is also fun to defend weaker players against gankers etc.

Give more rewards for PvP and Front Lines in general. As well make a leader board of who killed the most in a given week, most damage, most damaged healed, most forts captured, etc. this will be fun and give the community a sense of great competition. Also let us ride chocobo's in this map, make it massive and make it dangerous and beautiful at the same time. allowing for exploration but also running into enemy players at any corner.

Everyone complains about not enough content, because let's face it no amount of PvE content can compare to open sandbox PvP content where the players make their own fun. Giving this well to the community will ensure a longer retention and for sure give players who are hard core PvE something to do while waiting for patches. You can kill a monster 100 times and he will fight you the exact same way that 100 times. But players learn and change and fighting each other is, at least for me, far more satisfying than fighting creatures, but only if the system is greatly implemented within the game.

    That's my two cents

I see potential in this game too, but frontlines isn't it. The changes I want are deeper, things that touch more than just the arena or PvP. I'd like to see more variables, facets and customizability.

This can be applied to everything: gear, traits, abilities, roles, cross-class options - every aspect of this game. What we have now is lacquered with wholesome design to appease a large demographic. All of our options are clear cut and getting geared is as simple as filling every slot with the number 90. We're like mice running on gear treadmills to fight carbon copies of ourselves.

But where are the gear sets and specializations to promote diversity? Will we ever reward optimization beyond minuscule gains in a system where the baseline to perform well is so removed from the gearing process? Whatever happened to articulate statistic balancing?

Why aren't there traits like [these], that let me tailor my character to my liking? To add on that, why is this job system so anemic? We have so little available to truly customize in a game franchise with so many interesting jobs at its disposal.

Maybe there is just no pleasing players like me who expect too complex a standard for it to be considered worthwhile. Maybe the game is compelling enough for today's market and I am just too jaded with my PvP experience in previous games to fully enjoy it.

Probably both. Here's hoping frontlines is enjoyable, though.

I would love to see an open world pvp set up, just an entire area ( like the housing districts) where folks just gather up and start massicuring each other. No rewards, just random killing. Have alliances set up based on the grand companys with a restart of every 15 min to half hour. No player limits, just who ever makes it in before the gates close...

1 on 1 would be awesome if the damn 100% casting interrupt were to be droped to 25% to give healers a fighting chance.

    More maps
There are a lot of beautiful zones in the game. Sections of them could be turned into an instanced PvP arena. Would be interesting.

    More Game types
Capture the flag? King of the Aetheryte? Outpost Defense?

Ah this is so well said, it's nice being able to know everyone. Especially when you can get over the fact that you got killed by an opponent who outmaneuvered you. I love to give props to people who beat me, and from my experience... there's a lot of others out there who do the same.

All I want is a 1v1 duel option to hold me off until front lines. I'm a simple man, let me have my duels!

I shall copy and paste this from my guild forums, as it is relevant to this topic. What I put here however is mainly how to improve arena PvP.

A few things need to change for this game's PvP to start garnering interest instead of losing it.

-Make a matchmaking system based on rating, w/l ratio, and gear.

-Put a rewards system in place for 4v4s. Such as leaderboards, vanity armor, mounts, pets, titles...

-Make a new tier of gear which is i80, and make it available at rank 10 or 15.

-Make a set of i70 gear be available at the start through a repeatable quest, so you can start at i70 for each class in PvP.

-Make this quest to get i70 PvP gear be a prerequisite before you can enter the Wolves Den. This will stop PvE heroes from ruining matches.

-Do away with the i55 gear, while allowing those who currently have to keep it of course, but with the quest I described above, noone should need i55 PvP gear

-Make there be DPS materia you can buy through a PvP grind instead of having to grind gil for it. Not all of us have gil flowing into our pockets.

-Reverse the restrictions on third party music for videos.

-Frontlines and RvR added, with bonuses in game correlating to certain objectives completed.

I believe that most if not all of these changes are necessary to ensure the future of PvP arena in this game. Unless this game implements these changes soon, the i90s such as myself and others will crush the hopes of any new player who had any desire to PvP in this game whatsoever.

They really need to add a matchmaking system or something. IMO premade r30s are ruining pvp for everyone else. Allowing a team of 3 r30s to queue against solo queuers is just ridiculous. Just my opinion though.
