Was wondering where all the dust was coming from. Turns out it was from this year old thread...

Why would you care what someone else is proud about? It's none of your business. The only time people care about someone else being proud about something is when they are jealous.I didn't say he was happy, I said he was proud. He didn't enjoy the process either so what is there to brag about? If you're not having fun on a game what's the point? 30 hours of doing the same dungeon for one item. I'd feel sympathy for anyone who used that as something to be proud of. I'm glad you decided not to reply to me you'd have only bored me trying to defend the game.
This happens before every patch. Once a patch releases, people come back. Now that an expansion is nearly here, I've actually seen a rise in new players and I'm sure once it is released, we'll have a boom again. Anyway, this thread started over a year ago, and the player base has stayed about the same, if not grown since then.
I felt genuine sympathy, not jealousy. I was helping this person, I haven't named this person nor did I offer them insult. As I stated it is only what I think.
Edit: You are also very wrong about pride. When someone is proud, you can also be impressed, and proud of what someone else has achieved. I can honestly say I am impressed with the amount of determination it must have taken for them to do this, but I can't help the sympathy I feel too.

First, congratulations on that necrobump, it was pretty epic.
The reason why everyone was friendly and worked together in FFXI was because the game required parties for everything. If you were known to be a dick, no one would invite you and you couldn't complete any content. In FFXIV we have the opposite i.e. everything can be done solo and if you need a party, you can just group with some randoms, still be a dick, and no one will care because you'll never see them again.
I've heard that in the Japanese forums they've raised the idea of server only DF, so clearly it's something that some are still interested in.
Don't ya just love it when some fool who doesn't even play the game anymore necro's a thread. Sheesh.
My account is still active and I'd have started my own thread but as I stated before it wouldn't let me. And so far I've not argued against anyone else's opinion, called anyone a name, or told anyone what they actually felt. I merely stated why I have left the game as this was the only thread I found related to players who quit and more than anything I want SE to start giving more to the players who give so much time and money to them.
Ortamus, MMOs are not for everyone. If you want the instant satisfaction you are describing you can play small scale multiplayer game or invest some cash into a f2p game for all the perks and happiness your money can buy but even then you will probably find some grindy aspects. But you really should stop judging how others use their time, your pity is meaningless to people who enjoy playing MMOs for what they offer. You ask if we think its worth it to grind things out, well I ask you is it worth it to come to these forums and try to convince people to quit? you are wasting your time here as well, you might as well be grinding a relic weapon.
To anyone quitting: just quit, dont inform the forums, just save dignity and leave. Making a post is screaming "Im bitter over my life choices" or "Im burnt out, please talk me into staying". Ortamus sounds like the first.
Giving feedback is good. Which he... kind of did?
Personally, I haven't done anything in 14 that makes me proud, other than saving a wipe. In XI and heck, even GW2 I have more to be proud of. But everything in this game is just throw away.
I'm not quitting though. There are some things I like about 14. And I have stayed subscribed even though I've been taking a break until the expansion. I love the community - developer relationship. But the community to community relationship sucks.
Also, necro bump guy, you seem to want something to be proud of in this game. Would getting a guaranteed pony after just one run really help you feel proud? Unless it's a pay to win game (which will definitely not have anything to be proud over), there's no MMO that will not be a waste of your time.
Obviously I've hit a nerve, my intention wasn't to offend it was to see if any other people who didn't enjoy the game for the same reasons as myself. Well done on being the second person on assuming my thoughts and being completely wrong. People can post whatever they want here, they don't have to meet your approval.Ortamus, MMOs are not for everyone.
