We're a couple of months from a large patch that will introduce the second-ever raid tier, of course people are getting a bit bored. WoW goes through the same cycles, as does every other popular MMO.

    Well its expected.

The game is story driven and people usually beat the story within a month, Dungeons don't offer anything but outdated gear not worth making into Materia or even selling, mytholigy and phil is all you need but once that is done nobody cares for the dungeons.

No reason to do them anymore once you unlock CT, No reason to do roulette because you can buy peacock ore and other items to sell on market from spamming CT for phil after you max everything get your gear peace then you are done for 5-6 days nothing else to do, some people just wanna play 1 job because their favorite job is not in the game so they go back to FFXI.

I thought about how they could fix it where people would do dungeons.

Do what they did with the artifact weapons in FFXI byne bills and such, going through dungeons and make them rare to drop to make a good weapon that has its own weapon skill and have each dungeon drop different things for the weapons.

Have maybe a chance special boss monster appear that has a piece for the weapon in dungeon but pops rarely maybe doing it a couple of times till it pops, make the items to be sold on market.

Fates can be involved also you have to beat different fates in order to finish weapon and so many fates need to be done. need something like this make dungeons have random gear or gold bronze or tin in treasure chest or said artifact weapon items.

    This is just echo-chambering for a non-issue.

Subscriptions are on the rise, not on the decline, as illustrated in interviews, that we've reached 1.8 million active subscriptions. Players leave and join the game continually, so it is expected that there are tales of people who have had their circle of friends quit.

The problem lies not within the game at this point. Revolving door subscriptions are the nature of the beast and FFXI was absolutely no stranger to them during their 10 year hay-day. Just about everyone needed to be on the soap box on how they or some group close to them quit, yet the subscription numbers were continually stable overall.

Here, we're still trending upwards at over triple FFXI's peak subscription numbers, and still record-setting above any Japanese-origin MMO ever made.

I do realize World of Warcraft and other modern gimmicky MMOs have inflated subscription number expectations for success in the eyes of the western audience, but let's be clear here - we have likely doubled SE's marker for success on this game. And we're still trending upwards.

WoW goes through phases in which everyone resubs as a new patch with new content comes out, and then in the following months people slowly drop off and unsub or just stop logging in, but then resub and start logging in again as another new patch with new content comes out. In and out like the tide. This is what XIV will be if its successful.

If its not successful, then everyone will just stay gone and the game will die. SWTOR, and many other flavor of the year MMOs, kept the majority of their start population until about 6-ish months down the line, at their first tier-progression, and then the games suddenly crashed population-wise.

The real test of if this game will be 2.2 and 2.3 and if they revitalize the game or if the game starts hemorrhaging. I know a LOT of people who are subbed, but don't log in, and are basically waiting to see if 2.2 gives them a reason to log in again or if not: a reason to unsub.

My only point is that you shouldn't say that people are dropping like flies without any proof. It just makes the OP sound like the -special snowflake- title that you really don't want to have.
What I want for numbers is ACTIVE USERS not ACCOUNTS CREATED like we have been getting from them.

I'm in many Linkshells as well and see the same situation, more or less, being played out in other groups.
I guess I'm in the minority here in that I think the highlighted is what is causing people's misfortunes and not technically the game. It's not a hard concept to understand, Coil has a player lock out so if a group of people already have a static then try and find like minded people to make another group? You don't need to be in the same FC or Linkshell to make a static group for coil. The people who think "I only want to play with my FC/LS/Friends" are limiting themselves and it's their own fault. How did they come about making their friends to begin with? There are lots of people in this game, in my opinion, and it may or may not be an easy road but making new friends and finding similar play style people is an option.

I, personally, wouldn't want a selfish or irrational person in my group or helping anybody else for that matter. I have an alt that I lvl'd specifically to help people in my ls/fc run coil if they need it. Most the time I end up going into party finders and we successfully complete the turns, except turn 5. Half the time some people mention in the group that "this should be a static", "is anybody looking for a static", or "is anybody needing another person for their static". It's not rare.

I also wouldn't mind if player lock outs got removed but to really blame friendships breaking or "strains on friendships/fc's" on a game mechanic is kind of unfair. In the end, it's all about the player attitude. It's always easier to blame the game I guess.
