One of my FC members went on a little vent recently, and between that and starting to (finally) work on Garuda Ex myself, it got me thinking. One of the things he was kvetching about was how hard it is to learn a fight in DF as a DPS compared to tanks. Because after a few tries, everyone gives up, and he's stuck with a long queue again, while tanks can generally get back in much more quickly. So tanks (and to a lesser degree, healers) can get more attempts in a shorter time.

But the trade-off is that there's often a lot more to learn as a healer or a tank, and a lot more pressure & blame when things go wrong. You screw up as a DPS and you're a bad DPS, but everybody's used to that. And a lot of the time, unless you've got special tasks to do, most of what you need to learn (apart from the movement bits that everyone needs to know) is what target to hit next.

I don't really have a preferred role overall. Nothing that's, to me, "easy mode." Who has the hard job just depends on the fight. (Though, to be fair, my only 50 DPS so far is MNK, and I'm pretty sure that colors my perception.) So I'm always torn about which role to start with when it comes to learning new content. If I want to eventually tank it, knowing what the healers and DPS go through helps me be better at that anyway. And the same with those roles, too.

How about all y'all's? Do you go in with your personal easy mode first? Or the one true role? Or whatever slot is empty on the PF?
