Ironic character names

Yeah, it's normally like that, people like using nicknames that are quite different to their original language, or funny nicknames, etc...

For example I wanted first to use a clearly spaniard nickname so other spaniards could notice me in game and speak together... But at the end decided to use just a japanese name because I just love japanese and anime... Also... In this case it was Square-Enix's fault!...After seeing a NEKO race... I couldn't just resist to name my character like that. So, let's see... black haired miqo'te?... Then it has to be Kuroneko!... As for lastname... Random one, Nekomata.

(For an English name I would have think in something noob, probably my character name should be Kuroneko Noob, sounds fun and lovely for me!....)

As for people knowing I'm Spaniard I already have a funny name in my chocobo.

One of my favourite enemies in the rebooted Doctor Who TV series are the weeping angels... so naturally I made a Roe, and named her "Weeping Angel." Fits the lore of Roe names, and makes me smile every time I see her on my character select screen. Plus, her chocobo is named "Blink."

Sprinkles was named after my dog, "Cupcake". Was a total coincidence that I named her after the bakery...

There's an old joke about FFXI, in that there seemed to be more Sephiroth-clones in FFXI than there was in FFVII.

Luckily though that seems to be changing - although instead I see a lot of characters named either after celebrities or characters from Twilight/Game of Thrones/Harry Potter/<insert movie/tv show/novel flavour of the month here>.

It should also be noted that to do so is technically a violation of the Terms of Service, where it states your character name 'must not be taken from another intellectual property', but I don't think SE is particularly strict on enforcing that.

Yeah I had myself named Onyx Strife originally, but I received so much anger and hate on it that I eventually ended up changing it

My other main character (I have 4 on ARR, which I will play eventually in time) is Hayley Westenra, named after the Celtic Woman singer by the same name. She (my character) even looks the same as the singer!

Hayley Westenra isn't Celtic, she's from New Zealand, which I suppose would make her a Kiwi. Celts tends to mean Irish or Scottish.
