My favorite is a massive Roe who calls himself Fairy Princess, always grin when I see him![]()
If you report it, they will do something about it. However do be noted, that if the names aren't correct, meaning they've been spelled different, then they can't/wont do anything about it. Also, it should be noted that you shouldn't just go and report someone for their name, because that Phillip Fry you reported may actually be named Phillip Fry in real life and just wanted to use his real name(if you have no clue who Phillip Fry is, then go watch Futurama, but not the crappy Comedy Central seasons).
Here, my characters name is German for "Iron Gram".
In XI I was a galka named Table.
Some people tell me they get happy when they see my characters name. Like re-living their childhood. Also find it funny how Hyperion is flooded with most of the Sailor Sensei and none of them are alts/ played by different people.
Don't know much about irony itself.
I admit name I'm using right now came from vintage game protagonist. And I'm not even live on same region with the game maker itself. But the game itself means much more to me personally, in which was the reason I'm sticking that name for almost everything I register in online stuff.
Too bad I can't use the name in XI since it's too long, have to truncate it to Bobbinthrdbare.
There's also rare case where I cannot use this name in certain MMO since it's under same company, so I had to use substitute which related to same game too. Also, I use this when I'm making new character on different server. If you happen to see a name goes by "Rusty Nailbender", that's also probably be me too.
I think people seize the opportunity to play something 'different' than their normal self in MMOs and games in general -- often, the names fall into a different language. My character's name is totally Japanese, but not from an anime (although I've been informed that both parts of my name are very similar to anime names). Ryuko literally means 'little dragon' and was a term of endearment a friend gave me to describe my personality when I was something like 12-13 (I'm very petite but have a LOUD personality, apparently... also born the year of the dragon if you pay attention to that stuff).
I first used the alias "Ryuko" in FFXI (Diabolos server), and I'm 25 now. Kanzeon is the Japanese name of a bodhisattva (Quan Yin in Chinese). I originally used the name for my Resto Druid in WoW, because Kanzeon roughly translates to 'hearing/observing the cries of the world'. There is a very popular legend about her wanting to help the world but simply being unable to on her own, so her arms split into thousands of pieces in an attempt to reach out to everyone. Anyway, it seemed like an awesome name for a nature-themed healer.
The name stuck with me, and when FFXIV came out, I combined my two MMO names into Ryuko Kanzeon. I am told the name Kanzeon DOES appear in anime, although that wasn't my inspiration or intention when using the name. I've also been asked more than once if I got my first name (Ryuko) from the anime Tenchi Muyo (Ryoko) but that is also not the case. I am an English-speaking player and know only very little Japanese. It's a wonder I haven't used Italian names as that is a language I can actually kind of speak.
