Yeah, I really wish AA were a toggle in this game. Maybe I'm just too used to WoW, but watching the CON smack a drake in the head right after they sleep it is. . . absurd.

Actually, I don't think I have played one where AA could be toggled, that I recall. Personally, I was hoping for a system that could set a basic skill to auto attack for mindless play, but you could switch it to manual when you needed fine control, but I assumed SE would give us FFXI-style AA (I was actually hoping SE would keep the stamina bar, and give us the ability to turn off queuing actions, since that's what frustrated me most about gameplay, or just set everything to a timer without the stamina bar, but they dashed those hopes when they said AA would be added). Given the style they gave us, with no option to turn off AA, having ranged AA would suck for hate reasons, and unintentional attack reasons. I hated having to turn my back to a mob in XI because I was hitting too hard for hate management, and don't want to do that in this game.
