I am actually running a GTX770 Phantom and having no troubles even on SLI. Did you do a clean driver installation with driver fusion?
I had troubles with the previous nvidia driver version but now 334.89 it's ok.

Running a GTX770 myself with Windows 8.1 and no issues here either. Using 334.67 driver version.

I did not use the driver fusion software - I downloaded from Nvidia's automatic updates that seems to run every monday - current driver I am on is 331.65 - its the driver that came with the card. I wonder if there is something funky with NVidia's automatic driver update?

Evga customer support was suggesting that I may need to replace the power supply because I salvaged it from a Dell 630I - its a 750W power supply (which doesn't make much sense unless i am overclocking the heck out of the rig.) I was thinking about a Thermatake 1000w power supply, if I had to replace it.

Avoid the Nvidia automatic updates. Try downloading Driver Fusion and your latest nvidia drivers, uninstalling your graphics drivers, running driver fusion to remove any leftovers, rebooting and installing the latest nvidia driver.
