It's specifically an issue with SMN, because dots keep ticking even when we switch to attack nails. It's usually not a problem with just one SMN because one set of dots will not push Ifrit over the edge (unless other people are wailing on Ifrit during nail phase). When you have more than one SMN in the party, those SMNs need to pay attention because if they allow their dots to keep ticking (even when working on other nails), it can become a big issue. Like I said in my previous post, I was once in a group with 3 SMN and we accidentally triggered hellfire a few times -- once on the second set of nails (I'm still not sure if that was a glitch or not). Regardless, we all had to consciously let our dots fall off when we knew we were getting close.

I'm not sure how I feel about this failsafe. On the one hand, there are way too many fights where you can just outright ignore mechanics if you have the dps to push through. One example that comes to mind are the plumes in Garuda hard. On the other hand, I feel like this is a silly way to force you to pay attention to your dps. /shrug But... it is what it is, and I've learned to adapt. I don't love it, but... I deal with it.
