There is no way they'll drop support for the PS3 version anytime soon, the game is only 7 months old. I think the PS3 version will see at least two full expansions. Maybe more depending on how often they come.

They basically locked themself out of 2.1x though.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_versioning
3.0 doesn't come necessarily after 2.9
3.0 might be after 2.5 or even after 2.11
How the current patch system is based, the first decimal indicates which major patch it is and the second is the minor.
Like we already had 2.15 and if I remember correctly a 2.16
Would be weird for 2.11 to be released months after 2.16.
They've already planned how many major updates 2.x will have and it's highly likely there will be less than 10 :P
My guess is around 2.6 before we get 3.0
Well the plan they have is 3 months per Major update and 2 years per Expansion. They basically locked themself out of 2.1x though.

So we are looking at around 2.5 or 2.6 as the last 2.X Major Update before 1st expansion.
PS Yoshi-P already mentioned PS3 support will not end until 2nd expansion which is 3 years from now in the 4.X era.
Might be able to play 14 on ps3, but if they go the way they did to ps2, when Seekers of Adoulin came out for 11 it was only on pc and box not ps2, from what I understand there is a ps2 Seekers of Adoulin but only in japan
If they keep following WoW religiously like they've already been doing then 2.4 will be the last patch before the expansion, a couple of things point to it, mostly primals. They've been releasing one primal per patch so if you look at the primal poster from around launch only Leviathan, Ramuh and Shiva are left and one of them is coming in 2.2, next CT will be 2.3 and Ramuh is already confirmed, so 2.4 will be Shiva and probably just turn 10 with a boss fight against Bahamut, of course they could still do a 2.5 solely focusing on Bahamut. Shiva being the last primal is the perfect transition to the expansion too since they've already confirmed Ishgard would finally open by then, what with Ishgard or at least part of it most likely unfreezing after defeating her, plus the whole plot is currently moving towards dragon/zodiac serpent gods which is a perfect fit for Ishgard.
