[Try it] Cutscene Audio > Japanese

FF14 EN client supports original JP voice as well as subtitles, and I'm sure some of you are already aware, SE hired some of the best the JP voice actors for FF14.

Take a look at these 2 characters for example:

    Minfilia: Miyuki Sawashiro
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miyuki_Sawashiro

    Y'shtola: Ai Kayano
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ai_Kayano

If you are one of those who prefer the original voice acting (no translation, no casting actors in another language involved), you should definitely give JP voice a shot.

My personal opinion is that it changes the tone of the game and the characters become far more likable. Unfortunately I did not like the EN voice acting at all.

Just for the record, I have no bias because Japanese is not my native tongue nor is English. Games like MGS I actually preferred EN voice acting.

So when you get a chance try it out! You might like it :-]

This is true, some contexts are lost or altered in translation (though it doesn't bother me because I can understand Japanese so I can just ignore the EN texts.)

Still, wouldn't you agree that all things considered JP voice + EN dialog text is still far more enjoyable than EN voice?

Miyuki Sawashiro and Ai Kayano are absolutely top class. Japanese audio is in fact ways better than english especially for Minfilia and Y'shtola.
Even that, english cities intro and opening movie storyteller's voice is better.
Another example of top class english dubbing is FFXII (Matsuno chose english actors and not american to improve the elegance of the voices).

It's only too bad you can't choose translated text to go with the japanese audio. The current english text is localized, and not translated... While the essence is the same, wording and such can be quite different.

Now before you start shouting "weaboo" I believe that games that originate from certain cultures such as Japan should retain their original language in addition to the translated language, be it English, French etc. Its a shame Jp devs don't do this as often anymore. I remember back in the PS1 day where JP vo's where everyhwere. It adds a whole different immersion. Playing Metro last light in Rus VO has really made me appreciate it.

I play in Japanese so the audio was all in Japanese from the beginning however I have switched it to English to just hear it... So bad, man. So bad. Thancred sounds so awesome in Japanese. I wish there was more voiced moments in the game!

yep, that the first thing i did when the game came out
Jap VO always better than Eng VO for me. I found that in Eng VO some charactor voice tone doesnt match their action lol
