Client Black Screen On Start Up

It's now happened both on my computer, and my husband's. So I'm not sure if it is a bug, or computer related issues.

On start up (Clicking the FFXIV Shortcut on Desktop) the little client box pops up, but instead of checking for an update and going straight to the log-in screen, it's just black. If I move my cursor over the box, it gives the the icon that means it's loading, but nothing ever happens. If I try to close the client, it will say that the program is not responding and windows gives the the option to "Check for solution" "Close the program" or "wait for program to respond." Longest I waited for program to respond has been 30min. Closing the program and restarting it does not yield any success. The only way to fix it is rebooting the computer.
