My client crashes pretty frequently. To resolve it I usually have to shut down all other programs including Ventrilo and any web browsers. Any one else?
Fixed: MSN messenger was the cause of the crashes. Shut it off problem solved.

Everybody suffers from game crashes in one form or another. But personally I've never had it happen to me simply because of applications running in the background.
What is the error that you receive? I assume you're running in windowed mode since you have stuff running in the background?

Yeah run in windowed mode. Just gives me the "This program has stopped working." No error or option to view errors.
If you're sure that closing all background programs is a solution to your problem, do some tests and see if there is a specific application that causes the crash.
How often does this happen to you? My game crashes at least once every few hours.. but I've accepted that as normal at this point..
You may also find some information about the crashes under Control Panel - Admin Tools - Event Viewer

I have the same issue. Event viewer just lists it normally as an application shutdown (event 1000, which it lists whenever a program closes unexpectedly). It's been worse since the February patches too. I approached SE tech support and they had no solutions. They suggested not running any other programs, reducing graphics settings, a fresh install, updating drivers and none of it worked. Then they admitted they are working on stabilising the game for the next patch, but couldn't promise anything. They even said if a system meets the minimum requirements, there's no guarantee the game will run depending on other software installed :/ Not very helpful...
Personally I'm just going to wait and see.
Open your ports seem you getting internet packages lost and by closing Vent and maybe msn which use up internet which mean you may be getting packages lost open the ports if anything at least it help you download ffxiv update faster
getting game crashes is not part of the game i can play hours and days without getting one crashes then one day i get 1-5 crashes but if it everyday then it may be internet packages lost.
It seems that MSN messenger was causing the crashes. Hope this helps someone.
