It would be nice, but people are going like graphics means more than gameplay. Eye candy on goes so far, and it honestly wont keep people staying.

Haven't the community reps already said petitions don't work... so why keep making them?
High res texture pack? So, plus all the particle effects in a action packed area/high density area you sure your computer will be able to handle it? How high res is the high res you are looking for? Your computer has to process it all, I would rather good playability and responsiveness myself.
I would also like better textures but the res of textures alone aint gonna improve things a lot. FFXIV can be improved for the PC users and thats for sure. They mentioned a DX11 client is in the works but its too early for release. If any graphic improvements are under development that's gonna be for the new client which gonna be released only devs know when. I don't think we gonna get HD texture pack as standalone update. Really looking forward for DX11 client.
Now sure, I agree with the fact that I am playing on a PC because it can handle HELL a lot more then anything you can throw at a console, but all you cry babies about "oh noes the game looks like crap"... WHO GIVES A RATS BEHIND!!! Would you rather they work on the pretties of the game or the content/play-ability? I highly more prefer to play a game for its content then for how it looks. I mean... look at any COD or BF game lately... It is all the same crap we had years ago, just prettier graphics. Nothing new or exciting. Heck, there are times I still go back to Ragnarok Online because of the game play even though it has 2D graphics trying to be 3D.
Yes I do support the idea of a "addon" or something to enhance the graphics for those of us who can run it, but NOT AT THE COST of the game.
Wait till DX11 does come, and let the modders in the community take care of it. Let Yoshi P and his team work on the game itself.
Particle effects are more of a graphics process rather than a memory hog (only a minor memory impact).High res texture pack? Thankfully they've already begun work on the high resolution texture pack and trying to balance whether or not it's technically stable enough to adjust some textures to be higher or completely uncompressed.
However in the case of GPU memory for textures the client is currently using in and around 512-1024MB of texture memory. When GPUs now have the option of 2048-4096MB of GPU memory.
Expanding the game for the future and allowing those oh can use this to use it is fine. As long as it's optional, if it were mandatory we'd be in bother

I read half the thread before I had to stop from the sickness caused by ignorant statements about graphics technology. Gamers are incredibly ignorant about how their hobby works, technologically speaking, and always sound like parrots repeating whatever marketing bull crap they've heard.
That said, the textures in the game are of truly low resolution (to me it's specially obvious with the normal maps) and a high resolution pack would do wonders for some models. However, there's a catch: it may not be possible. We don't know at what resolution these textures were originally worked at. If the original work was done at the target resolution then bringing high res textures for models currently in game would not be possible as it would require to completely redo the assets. It would still be possible to create new assets with a higher resolution target of course, although the contrast between models may result in some uncanny effect (as seen with the Shantotto cross over, although that one was intentional).
If we're going to ask for higher resolution textures we might as well ask for higher polygon models too. At least for player characters, that is.
Two different things tho, between poly/tri count of mesh models and the resolution of the textures. HQ textures can make low poly models look more than they are, low quality textures can make high tri/poly models look low count. It's tricks that are ustilized to make low poly/tri models with low level textures look more detailed than they actually are, lighting does help in that respect.Though I still would like having the higher res textures too. But seriously, stop saying that he said you guys are idiots and can't tell the current textures are bad. That's not what he said. He said he thinks, you won't be able to tell later on. That remains to be seen, and I'm certain many of us will be able to tell. But it also shouldn't be as bad as it is now. Unfortunately only time will tell.
