    It's pretty darn obvious on some armors. Glacial Coat is nothing but pixels and low res even. And the stones in limsa.

    Thing is, the entire game engine was rebuild from scratch to work with low-res textures. The game looks terrible compared to 1.0, but there's nothing they can do to change it. They'd have to rewrite it again.

    The direct11 version would be enough to support higher res textures. The only limitation to texture size atm is the directx limitation. The moment they are on 11 they can easily bump it up.

    Ummm that's not the way it works with textures. It was the poly-count of a lot of things and an engine that was simply NOT built for an open world design that was killing it.

    I'm not even a PC user and still I think this is a great idea.
    It would be cheap to do and they (should) have the assets to make this happen.

    Future-proofing the PC version would be something all players (even us console users) would benefit from.

    The reason this won't happen is the PS3. It can't use higher resolution textures, and SE won't devote the time and money to give PC/PS4 better textures. They believe DX11 will make the resolution of textures "unnecessary".

    lolwut.

    The development team have already expressed their concerns about the limitations the PS3 is imposing on making this a "true Final Fantasy" game which has always been harboured for a cut-clean look to the best of their ability.
    They don't believe DirectX (as it's simply a library) has anything to do with it, you're confusing the point. The development team believe that for now the textures are fine and that the resolution doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things FOR NOW.

    That doesn't mean that in the future (even a distant one) that the time/effort won't be placed into replacing them, assuming "they won't do it" is silly.

    They're actually well on the track now of trying to dump the PS3 so they can implement in cloth physics, physics assisted gameplay, (higher detailed and broader content).
    Things such as area sizes, the user interface, model/texture data is already becoming a huge issue for the PS3 and we're only on patch 2.1.

    You'll see a drastic shift in the design decisions and overall look for the game once the PS3s support is officially dropped.

    This shouldn't be a issue, FFXI they said the same thing, though lately they exclude ps2 and say you must own a pc if you want better stuff.

    This could fall in line with the pc and ps4 if you own a ps3 you don't get the high texture pack.

    I remember ps2 limitations speech always was given but its funny how they keep updating FFXI.

    PC and PS3 clients are seperate, it matters not which one uses what textures or settings, they both can access the same server, using different clients, it really isn't hard, but has anyone used graphics injector on this game to get it to look as fantastic as original FFXIV used to look? Like SweetFX?
