Voice chat options?

Yeah if PS3/4 player get far enough into FFXIV I'm sure they will buy a keyboard but even still it can not compete with the sheer speed and convenience of Voice Chat. When I am in a hectic battle on FFXIV I don't have time to type out a message and explain something or even read the chat log. Like I said earlier we started playing DC Online last night for a laugh and we were amazed when we saw that it supported cross platform voice chat directly in the game so that was brilliant and it worked great.

Is mumble free or do you have to pay for servers to host the chat?

There is a ventrilo App for Andriod called ventriloid.
There is one for iPhone called Ventrilode.

Note, these are just for ventrilo, but they work fine.

Is there a reason nobody so far has suggested Discord as an option? It's available on both iOS and Android and works almost about the same on both platforms.

There is also Ventrillo, it's similar to TeamSpeak/Mumble in the respect it does require a server (which you can do yourself, host your own, or rent one).

So with Ventrillo I can just host my own server on my PC without having to pay for one? Is it difficult to setup the server?

You can do that with TeamSpeak or Mumble, too. Bandwidth may be an issue depending on how many people you're wanting to connect and what kind of connection you've got.

And I've got no idea how easy any of them are to set up. I just googled for a minute.

Well I have a 150mb connection so surely that would be enough for 10ish people to use. I'll have to look into this more then and see what our options are. I hope we can get something sorted soon as some of my friends are already moaning about all the hoops they have to jump through to play FFXIV so I would hate to lose them to DC Online because I really just want a game we can easily all play together.
