Voice chat options?

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a smartphone friendly app that my friends can use so we can all chat together while playing?

After the PS4 beta a few friends have decided to pick this up so now we are looking at options so we can all chat together. We all have either a PS3 or PS4 but Sony's party chat does not work cross platform but we all have iPhones so would something like Skype be the best bet?

We started playing DC Online last night just for a laugh while we wait for my friends PS3 copies to arrive and we were shocked to see the game itself has a built in cross platform voice chat system so we were able to talk even though some were on PS3 and some on PS4. I know Yoshi P. Has already stated that they will never implement such a system in FFXIV but I really wish they would as it made playing together so much easier on DC last night and during the entire PS4 beta you could tell that communication between players was a problem. There were no end of times I couldn't be bothered to reply to someone or I let parties fall apart because it would take to long to explain/type mechanics like Ifrits nail to new players using the onscreen keyboard.

Some people like to use skype (which I believe is available on all platforms) but eh I just dont like that program at all.
Vent is also available on cell phones but you'd have to pay for a server to connect to.

Only one of my friends is on Android the rest of us have iPhones. However he and myself will be playing on PC so we were planning to just use Skype on the PC while everyone else on PS3/PS4 could use their iPhones and download the Skype app. We were just wondering if there were any better options out there.

Skype is what I have available to me. We use voice chat, not video chat. Unfortunately, I have not found any way to create a group chat through the app. Someone with a computer version of the program has to do this and then add the phone users. (If anyone knows how to create a group call in Skype from the android phone app, please let me know. I have been unsuccessful finding this info online.)

I would also love to know this. Me and my friends are suffering from the same issue. Need to have someone on PC group us together. (Iphone version)

I was't aware you couldn't start a group call through the app, good job I am playing on PC then so I can sort that out I guess

Confirmed: app version on android does NOT allow for starting group skype calls... you can only join one. >

On the off chance my entire party has only skype on their phones, I'm lucky to have a laptop I can use to start group chat. I hope the group chat feature is added to the phone app someday.

Teamspeak has an app on android and iOs, but You'll need a TS Server to use it.

Also it's possible to have both Your Smartphone Sounds (i.e. Teamspeak) and the ingame Sounds on the same Headset by using the PS4 Headphone jack and a few adaptors ;o)

Which is why most PS3/4 players eventually buy a cheap USB keyboard.

My FC uses Mumble, and I know several people use a smartphone/tablet app for it. Haven't heard any big complaints. Couldn't tell you much more than that, though.

Yeah if PS3/4 player get far enough into FFXIV I'm sure they will buy a keyboard but even still it can not compete with the sheer speed and convenience of Voice Chat. When I am in a hectic battle on FFXIV I don't have time to type out a message and explain something or even read the chat log. Like I said earlier we started playing DC Online last night for a laugh and we were amazed when we saw that it supported cross platform voice chat directly in the game so that was brilliant and it worked great.

Is mumble free or do you have to pay for servers to host the chat?
