Maybe it's a totally original race unique to XIV that isn't just fanservice?

Hoping this is the case.

I vaguely remember Yoshi's commentary to the 1.0 player poll #something-something with the so-called "Vierra won the new race poll!" He said something along the lines of "I think it was unfair to describe this choice with Vierra," as if the only reason why that option won in the first place was because they described it with Vierra and players assumed they would be included if that particular new race-type won.


If it does turn out to be a rabbit/bunny thing, I'll simply just shake my head, and not deign to even create/Fantasia that race (even out of curiosity) and move on with my FFXIV life.

There's a very good chance it's the FFXIV analog to the Viera race (because the Viera are an Ivalice race and this isn't Ivalice).

I think it's very important to remember that the races don't have to be perfect replicas of how they've appeared elsewhere. Just look at how visually different the the Tarutaru and Galka are from the Lalafell and Roegadyn (there's even some notable differences between Mithra and Miqo'te), and yet those two races are analogs of each other.

The ear points do instantly make me think of some race that's similar to, but visually distinct from the Viera; just close enough to scratch that itch, but dissimilar enough to keep it from being a complete rip-off.

I wonder if we'll see a samurai class/job open up with this new race.

It's a pretty big hint imo

Yugiri -> Doma Region -> 'Oriental' stuff -> Thief/Ninja/Samurai


About Gilgamesh, it's going to be a 8 player content hopefully (from the screen that seems an arena)?

Could be a race with Asian Draconic features thus making it "different' from The dragon problems in Ishgard.

Hoping this is the case.

Prior to the first Alpha test of this game he stated ARR will be a Fanservice title first and foremost and XIV will be designed as basically a fanservice MMO - To bring in all elements from other FF games into this one.

"Original" races at this point would seem extremely weird. If they were smart it'd be at least Gria as it fits not only the lore better, but also fits in Yoshi wanting a dragonic type race.

Or maybe it's just an unplayable variation like the Padjal. What makes me sad is (another) Hyur body template, cause from what I can tell it looks like a Hyur temp. female with a weird head. Hopefully their skin is scaled, or furry, or something other than "normal".
