Though I don't agree with everything listed, at the later stages of 1.23 there was quite a bit of content (Added by the same develoment team as ARR) that worked really well but isn't in ARR.

For one having the duty find is good for casual players but at the cost of communty and sense of adventure. Because people don't actually have to go to the dungeons they never see 99% of the world, they just stand in Revnant Toll waiting for the DF to pop unless it's for Coil where they can just Teleport to Wineport in an instant.

Though I think the regen time of Anima was a little too slow it did force people to be careful how they used it and made mounts useful.

Sometimes I just go to random zones whilst waiting for DF just for different scenery but they are mostly void of other players which is kind of sad.

Reason they remade 1.0 is not because it had these things, the reason 1.0 was remade is that they released an incomplete game.

2.0 is the result of "throwing the baby with the bathwater" analogy.

1.0 had better concepts that 2.0 could never dream of or cant because of "hand me things" gamers.

    Based on the original list.
    • You don't get mounts until 30 and it's locked behind a difficult quest. There are no teleports. Airships exist for a reason.
    • All areas of the maps are filled with dangerous mobs. Levels don't mean jack, you will be instagibbed because that lvl 5 monster is actually an elite in hiding. Good luck with that.
    • Monsters are tougher but they give more exp. Dungeons give little exp with a small chance at an item. Various forms of junk (white items) are added to bosses loot tables, actual good items are rare.
    • you have to run to a dungeon to enter it
    • NO DUTY FINDER
    • Exp needed to level is doubled. You want to have multiple level 50s? Be prepared to give SE a lot of your money because you'll be lucky to see lvl 50 on your first character by new years.
    • all npc vendors are gone. Need something? Better hope someone else already made it.
    • If your item breaks, it's gone. Forever. Artifact Gear and Relics are exempt.
    • No changes to the Relic or Artifact questlines because if you make it to 45+, you are officially a boss.
    • Primals can and will one shot anyone other than a tank. And that tank better be good because he'll get one shot as well.
    • Market Board is gone. Only individual player stalls.
    • Leveling up crafting classes is just as difficult, if not more so, than combat classes.
    • Because monsters can and will randomly one shot you, gathering is now 100% more difficult. Invisibility and stealth are gone. If you need that mat and it happens to be in the middle of a monsters hunting ground, better find someone to kill them for you.
    • Cannot switch classes/jobs out in the open. Can only do it in your home or in an inn. Why? Because fudge it that's why. Other games don't let you change classes period, why should you go from black mage to white mage at the drop of a hat?
    • Dying removes exp and could delevel you. Also dying permenently lowers an items durablity. Players can repair items, but not completely if they are permadamaged. (For example, you have a sword that is 100% durability and as you use it, it drops to 10%. A blacksmith can repair it to 100%. You die, and the sword is permadamaged to 85% durability. A blacksmith cannot bring it over 85% durability.)
    • Speaking of durability, it effects an items effectiveness. A suit of armor at 10% durability ain't gonna protect you that much. A sword at 10% durability ain't gonna hurt that much.
    • No more tomes. Items drop from bosses. If you never see your loot drop. Tough better luck next week.
    • FATEs are rarer and harder. Much harder. The last person who gets a hit on the boss will get an item. (Not fair to healers you say? Well I guess you shouldn't have healed during that fate then huh.) This is to make it far more cut throat. Why do I want it to be more cut throat? Because the thought amuses me to no end.

    Go big or go home.

Or are you referring to 1.23 perhaps? As what I just listed was extremely restrictive.

What alot of these people pining for 1.0 seem to be conveniently forgetting is... they had their chance and blew it. Yes, 1.23 could be running today, sans updates, if they, the players, actually meant to save it. After the character data was saved and the servers shut down Yoshida answered peoples cries to keep it running by opening them back up under the stipulation that the only way they'd stay up is if at least 20% of the population returned to keep playing. I played this resurrected 1.23... it was a ghost-town. Noone was playing. You'd think 20% wouldn't be a big deal but, meh. Had your chance.

That's not hardmode, that's time sink mode.

I would like 'real' hard mode:
-- Make the bosses unpredictable: No set patterns to memorize at all.
-- Make a variety of equipment such that they are situational and require us to think which weapon to use when.
-- Re-introduce the elemental wheel to make us think about who attacks mobs and with what skills
-- And more complex battle strategies requiring us to coordinate individual attacks with each other rather than each of us just 'doing our thing'
-- Have mobs re-pop, so we don't get the 'luxury' of knowing its now safe, but have to worry about more critters coming to eat us.
-- Fill the world with some mobs whose purpose is really just to ruin our day, and we have no chance to win (some battles are simply meant to not be fought)

    - Fix and stabilize the existing server structure and engine first.
    - Don't add hard mode servers, the cost isn't justified.

Tanaka's not walking through that door, folks. Let it go.

Timesinks and gated content are so 2000's

At first I was like YES! Sign me up for that!

Then I saw your actual bullet points and thought. Screw that.

Paying gil is way harder than free anima was.
I'd be just happy with much harder death penalty and increased mob toughness.
