Not sure if I my configuration is correct.

    Hey guys,
probably a stupid question but I've been researching for almost a week and due to the lack of info on my hardware, unable to figure it out.
So I purchased a new laptop last weekend and was advised by the salesperson that it would be able to run FF14. Fair enough right?
Anyways, it's running terribly and I can't find a definitive reason as to why. I'm not terribly good with computers but I am a huge FF fan so purchasing the new online game was clearly a must. I'm leaning towards my processor being underpowered but after contacting the salesperson's manager and talking to him about it, he has made me believe that it's the config of the laptop.

Anyway, basically what I'm asking is, with the specs outlined below, should I be able to play FF14 on standard settings? because on low settings it's still pretty rough (stuttering etc.). If not then I will take the laptop back and replace it for a better desktop/laptop.

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1
Processor: AMD Phenom II P960 Quad-Core Processor
    BIOS: InsydeH20 Version 2.00
    Physical Memory: 4086.863mb
    Virtual Memory: 2047.875mb
    Page File: 8171.922mb
    DirectX 11
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6330M
    Video Memory: 1014.430mb
    Shared Video Memory: 1787.432mb
    DAC Type: Internal DCA(400mhz)
    Driver Version: 8.17.00010.1063
    Driver Date: 11/02/2011
    Vertex Shader: 3.0
    Pixel Shader: 3.0

The other laptop I was thinking of changing it with was a Sony Vaoi VPCEB46FG/W which has the Intel i5, Radeon HD 5650.

Thanks guys. Sorry if it's a bit stupid, but yeah not very good with these things. Cheers

Should be able to play it on standard settings from the looks of your Specs. Make sure you have the latest Catalyst Control Center and Drivers from the AMD website. Adjust your graphical settings to "Use application Settings" on there. On the FFXIV Config set your graphical settings to standard. Make sure that Depth of Field and Ambient Occlusion are turned off as it is too much of a resource hog.

There will still be slight stuttering in high traffic areas due to server lag etc. But if you are really worried, after making sure your video drivers and settings are set properly. Download the FFXIV Benchmark, if it gets a poor score, then the computer doesn't have enough power.

Thanks so much for the quick response Judge_Xero.
Driver's and Catalyst are up to date, settings app controlled (if possible, otherwise on performance or off).
I'm running the game on low settings right now and it still stutters, regardless of where I am (as I have read that the game often smooths out in fields).

Benchmark gave me a horrible score of about 300 something. That's why I am so concerned.

If the computer doesn't have enough power, do I have any options? Or should I just take it back and get the Vaoi?

Is the windows 32 or 64bit? And the GPU is a bit slow and will definately force you to lower some settings.

    It's running on 64 bit.
Yeah I was worried about the 1.8Ghz GPU despite what the manager said about it still being better...

I mean the GPU AMD Radeon HD 6330M not the Phenom CPU :P
The CPU is fine but the GPU is lowend. http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Rad...M.43845.0.html

It's a chipset GPU so you can't upgrade it. You would have to replace the whole laptop. If you use that link I posted you should look for a laptop with a GPU of class 1 or 2. Class 1 is highend for high details and class 2 is midrange for standard settings. If you don't want stuttering in town the HDD should also be fast.

    Thanks for the support guys,
I've ended up pulling out my old Gaming tower, giving it a good clean and fresh install. Runs okay on that so it'll do until tax time rolls around then I purchase a newer machine ^_^b
Looking forward to getting stuck into it.
