At first I thought it was cool that I could see the chat from multiple link shells, but now I don't think I like it too much. I think it promotes having a lot of link shells, which leads to a lot of people who just jump around a lot or only spend a few seconds/minutes in a few of them. It's not a good thing when link shells fill up so fast and its next to impossible to clean house unless the people are logged on and basically standing right next to you.
