Cross-Server Interaction & Other Major Flaws: This game is far too lonely

Whilst the world around me is wholly engaging and really delivers a sense of a living, breathing, developing world, due to the fact that is a lack of general chat the game has fast become a rather lonely experience. I've little chance of making many friends within the game itself, and in the event that I do, well, tonight that actually happened.

I've just come out of Haukke Manor, which we failed by the way (the tank didn't have a clue what he was doing), and whilst I was within the dungeon I quickly become fast friends with the two DPS characters. Turns out that we shared many interests; we were all ex-WoW veterans, anime fans, gamers, shared a love of the Final Fantasy franchise, and it even turned out that I lived very close to one of them in real life!

As the dungeon timer ticked closer to an end, we agreed that once out of the dungeon we would add each other to our friends list, possibly create a free company and get a home together.

    Then disaster struck.

We are unable to locate that character.

I could not even message them let alone friend them. I was totally heartbroken and so I returned to playing completely alone.
Seriously, what is the point of having cross-server dungeons if you can't communicate with people you meet once the dungeon is finished?

That in itself raises a few other things I take issue with.
Not being able to send private messages/tells within dungeons? Is there a specific reason for that? Because I think it's ridiculous.

The entire dungeon my new friends and I were desperate to have a giggle behind our disaster of a tanks back and found ourselves incapable of doing so, and so as not to appear rude we were reduced to using sly emotes.

    So, in summary:

    1. Allow cross-server interaction/friend listing. Name clashes will not be an issue providing you add the name of the server before an alias, for example: [Moogle] Arris Whitemaine and so forth.

    2. Allow for private messaging/tells within a dungeon. I don't even know WHY that isn't there now.

    3. Institute a general chat within the game world, because honestly, as gorgeous and engaging the world is, I don't know if I'll keep playing if my experience continues to be this lonely. I so desperately want to make friends within the game but it honestly feels like Square Enix is deliberately restricting me.

Yeah, unfortunately dungeons are cross-server, meaning the people you're teamed with will most likely not be on the same server you're on. However, that doesn't mean you can't still track them down - do a search through the Lodestone and make contact through there (and worse case scenario, create a new character on their server or even use the World transfer service to move your existing character to their server).

If you're not happy with the server you're currently on and find it hard to make friends there, that last option might be therefore be the best choice.

Incidentally, you can get around the 1000-character limit on the forum by simply posting a few sentences, and then editing the rest in.
